1964 Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider

This beautifully prepared, original RHD home market car was manufactured on the 17th January 1964 and sold on the 30th May 1964 to Alfa Romeo in London. This Alfa Romeo Guilia 1600 Spider (type 101.19) was supplied new in Biancospino (Hawthorn White) and today presents as a stunning, example in its original colour combination. The above information has been confirmed by the Alfa Romeo Historic Archive in Milan.

We are pleased to report this original UK car has never suffered from the typical corrosion problems often associated with this model of car. The Alfa was exported to Canary Islands where it has spent many years in a dry climate. From paperwork with the car, we know the Alfa was in Tenerife in 1982 so it has spent at least 34 years in the sun.  In 2016, the Alfa returned to the UK and after UK registration was treated to a new clutch, gearbox mounting, speedo cable, propshaft universal joint, propshaft front coupling, new Weber carb mount rubbers, new exhaust manifold gaskets and a new bonnet rubber, door glass lining velvets and a set of stainless steel hub caps.

Having been enjoyed and fettled over 2017/2018, the car was then booked in for more major work and in the region of £20,000 has been spent in 2019. The Alfa bodywork was in excellent structural condition but with 30-year-old plus paintwork, the owner decided to have the car fully stripped down and treated to a full re-paint in the cars correct colour. The Alfa was fully stripped down, fully prepared, re-gapped and re-painted. The engine and gearbox were removed from the car, the engine bay then prepared and re-painted and the boot also stripped and re-painted.

Whilst the engine and gearbox were removed, the engine was treated to various new gaskets and detailing, and the gearbox stripped and rebuilt. The Alfa was then mechanically treated to a new plenum chamber, new air filter housing, new coolant hoses, heater hoses, new thermostat, drop link bushes, engine mounts, differential nose seal, half moon seals, new exhaust mounts, new headlamp bowls, new headlights, new wiper arms and various ignition and service items. Once fully re-painted, built back up and mechanically prepared, the Alfa was treated to a brand-new mohair hood, new carpet set and new quarter glass windows. Having recently completed the major program of work, this Alfa Romeo Spider is offered onto the market in stunning condition.

Close up inspection reveals a top-class paint finish, panels are perfectly straight and the car is structurally superb. The engine bay is very well presented with lovely paintwork and a detailed, clean 1750cc engine. The upholstery presents very well with lovely new carpets, nicely aged seats, dash and door cards. Chrome work is generally of a very good standard, door handles possibly original. Having been fully re-commissioned, the Alfa drives superbly with a strong engine holding excellent oil pressure, lovely smooth gearbox and the car feels tight, precise and is a delight to drive. The Alfa feels quick, clearly enhanced by the larger 1750cc Alfa engine. This is now a lovely usable car and of course has the provenance of a rare UK RHD car still in its correct colours.
