This rare, very special Aston Martin DBS is a real collectors’ piece and a car we are delighted to offer onto the market. GPE 865J is a wonderful find and it boasts fabulous provenance that is equally matched by its pristine exterior condition and wonderful, beautifully aged original upholstery. This DBS V8 is one of only 288 fuel injected cars produced and very few are known to be still on the road. This car was built on the 9th April 1971 in RHD format for the home market. The car is still correct and original as it left the factory, finished in Alpine Grey with Blue upholstery and is a full matching numbers car. GPE 865J was supplied new with factory fitted equipment to include Fuel Injection, Automatic gearbox, Air-Conditioning and was ordered with Dark Blue Carpets. The car was delivered new to the famous H W Motors Limited, Walton on Thames, Surrey who initially kept the DBS V8 as their factory demonstrator. HWM Ltd are the oldest remaining Aston Martin dealership with impressive early race heritage and they maintained the car in its early life.
This car has covered just 51,500 and has a fabulous supporting history file that contains the cars original service booklet. HW Motors sold the DBS to Roy and then Bernard Marks of the Alfred Marks Recruitment Bureau who were close friends of the owner of HWM. The car was registered to their Soho Square address. A letter is on file from HWM confirming this early interesting ownership history. Bernard Marks appeared on many TV shows as he championed Women's rights in the work place and launched the first recruitment agency in the UK. The original Aston Martin Lagonda Limited Warranty card in the name of Roy Marks is still with the cars history. H W Motors Limited serviced the Aston Martin at 756, 1686, 2767, 4653, 8713, 15170, 15799 and 20346 miles in 1978. The Aston was serviced by an independent Motor Company at 30030 miles and back with H W Motors at 31219 in 1986 and 39081 miles in 1987. The 1990's saw the Aston mileage move from 42918 to 49200 with various receipts from Aston Martin Dorset and parts from Aston Martin Newport Pagnell. Throughout the 2000's the DBS was MOT tested each year covering ultra-low mileage and significant expenditure (£6000) was carried out with Runnymede Motor Company in 2011 at 50563 miles and since being with the last owner (2015) as part of a small top class Aston Martin collection, a high level of detailing work has been carried out with the majority of parts coming from Desmond Smail. The Aston has been covering only around 100 miles per year but much of its time on axle stands having careful underside detailing and cleaning carried out. MOT certificates with the car date back to 1984 and receipts for thousands of pounds worth of servicing and maintenance are with the car recording its full history from new. A copy of the buff log book is also retained on file confirming the early ownership and copies of historical V5's.
Further to the fabulous history, we have both sets of original keys, the original radio is present, in as new condition and working as expected and the original electric aerial working to original spec. An Aston Martin Heritage Certificate confirms original specification and matching numbers and the car is outstanding in terms of presentation having had a bare metal repaint at a cost of £9000 in its correct colour of Alpine Grey in 2017. The bumpers were re-chromed and the balance of chrome is all in as new condition and the engine bay is highly detailed and in as new condition. The whole underside of the vehicle is detailed and the Stainless Exhaust is highly polished. All five Alloy Wheels have been re-polished with brand new tyres.
