1935 Austin 10 Colwyn Cabriolet

The Austin 10 Cabriolet was first introduced in late 1932 at the Paris Salon as a new body style for the Continental market. The 'Motor Magazine' described the car as a neat occasional four cabriolet, with folding head and two doors, fitted with a box for luggage at the back.

The Colwyn was introduced in 1934 and priced at £178. The Colwyn was said to combine the attributes of a closed and open car. The roof may be opened half way or fully to suit the weather conditions. It has full comfortable seating accommodation for four people and both front seats are adjustable and the exceptionally wide doors make access to the rear easy.

This smartly presented example has spent the last four years in Dumfries. When the last owner purchased RD 7307 it was driven over 250 miles from the Midlands to South West Scotland and performed perfectly. The Austin has proved a very reliable car and has been well maintained with recent improvements such as a new exhaust and timing chain. From previous MOT certificates we know the Colwyn has covered 5,000 miles since 1997 and it continues to be a strong pre-war car that really can be used. The 1132cc four cylinder side valve engine performs perfectly and the gearbox is superb with synchromesh on 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears.

Prior to spending four years in Scotland, the Austin was very well known on the Lincolnshire show and rally scene. The Austin regularly attended shows and took parts in several club rallies each year often completing 60-120 mile trips. The history file contains many plaques and certificates along with maintenance invoices throughout this period. RD 7307 also featured in several articles including a write up in the Grimsby Telegraph and large feature in the Austin Ten Drivers' Club Magazine. The history file also contains several photographs of the Austin taking part in several events.

The Austin has lovely leather upholstery with a high quality finish. The engine bay and boot area are nicely presented and the bodywork and paint are of a good standard. The Austin is bright, presentable pre-war car that offers great value open top motoring.
