VL 4945 was first registered on the 24th June 1933. From the brown 'buff' logbook we know the Austin was based in Coningsby, Lincolnshire throughout the 1950's and 1960's and from other paperwork we know our Austin was in West Yorkshire by the 1990's. We have known this example for over ten years and last sold the car in 2009 to a regular customer in Gibraltar.
This Austin 12/4 is a good, strong useable example. The car has proven to be reliable over the past three years in Gibraltar and has been used for classic car events and rallies and the odd wedding. The Harley has a superb engine that has been totally rebuilt. The work included a replacement block, re-bore, polished crankshaft, conrods white metalled to suit crankshaft, new valve guides and new oil pump. As a result the engine performs superbly with excellent oil pressure. More recent work includes new brake linings and a new clutch.
Our Austin appears to be an older restoration with a nice level of patina. The paintwork could be 15/20 years old and still presents well with a nicely aged feel. The body is strong, straight and the underside superb. The engine bay presents well and the upholstery appears very original. The whole car has a very honest, original feel to it and importantly VL 4945 has proven reliability and is a pre war Austin that can be driven anywhere with absolute confidence.
