PTX 728 was first registered on the 11th February 1955 and supplied new by Glanfield Lawrence Limited of Cardiff. The Austin A50 left the factory in Grey with Red upholstery and is today one of the most original examples we have come across. We have the original brown 'buff' logbook, original bill of sale, original warranty paperwork, original handbook, early service history and a tax disc from 1961. The car is still in its original colour combination with totally original upholstery and we can confirm the car has only covered 42580 miles from new.
This smartly presented original car was in regular daily use for the first six years and in 1961 was taken off the road and put into dry storage with a mileage of 42000. The Austin was kept in storage for 51 years and in 2012 put through a programme of re-commissioning work. The brakes were overhauled, new tyres were fitted, the radiator re-cored, the fuel tank removed and re-conditioned, bumpers were sent for re-chroming and the Austin was re-painted. We can confirm the car has never required any welding work and since being re-commissioned the Austin has attended several shows.
The Austin presents very nicely with a lovely paint finish and lovely straight panels. The underside is excellent and original, the interior very nice with lovely seats and carpets. The headlining is original and dis-coloured, the driver's door card has some damage but the overall condition of the upholstery is very good and excellent considering how original it is.
On the road this Austin is a delight with a fabulous low mileage engine pulling strongly through the four speed column change gearbox. The brakes are sharp and pull up straight, the car handles superbly is great fun to drive.
