This stunning Ice Blue over Cream Austin Healey 3000 MKII was built on the 19th April 1963 and despatched on the 26th April to a New York dealership. PTU 426B was supplied new as a LHD North American Export car with white wall tyres, heater, miles per hour speedo, laminated windscreen, overdrive, adjustable steering column and tonneau cover. We don't know any early history but paperwork confirms the Healey was sold to a Jeweller in Fulton, Missouri in April 1997 who kept the car for nineteen years. By 2015, the long term US owner decided to sell the car in need of restoration and it was exported out of the Port of Houston and arrived in the UK.
During 2015 major restoration began with a full body strip down to a rolling shell. The body was professionally restored and painted body colour underneath. A full right hand drive conversion was carried out and the engine was checked, compressions and oil pressure found to be excellent and the gearbox stripped and rebuilt. The engine and gearbox were refitted along with many new ancillaries and the exterior treated to chrome including chrome wire wheels and a brand new hood and refurbished frame. The upholstery was treated to new carpets and seats and door cards were cleaned up and re-fitted to the car. The Healey arrived with us with the restoration almost complete and our workshop Malton Coachworks have completed the programme of work and the car is now MOT tested and UK registered.
On arrival with our workshop, we fitted new rear brake shoes, new brake discs, front pads, gearbox mounts, fitted a new overdrive solenoid bell house, rebuilt all three carburettors, replaced engine mount rubbers, fitted new heater duct, replaced the rear panhard rod and rubbers, replaced leaf springs, fitted a new speed cable, heater controls and purchased a new distributor. We have spent in the region of £5000 completing the car and ensuring its roadworthy and in excellent mechanical order. The Healey now drives superbly and is ideal for long distance touring with the advantage of an overdrive gearbox. PTU 426B presents beautifully with excellent paintwork, a stunning straight bodyshell, impressive engine bay and a top class, clean, underside that is yet to be waxoyled. This MKII 3000 is now covering running in miles since completion.
