This fantastic driving Austin Healey 'Frogeye' Sprite was originally supplied for the U.S. Export market. The 'Frogeye' was sold by a Los Angeles Company in 1990 and was exported to the UK. On immediate arrival in the UK, the car was totally stripped down, rebuilt as necessary and converted to RHD. The car was treated to a brand new wiring loom, re-conditioned steering rack, re-conditioned stub axles, new wishbones, new kingpins, suspension bushes, new flywheel ring gear and further re-commissioning work as necessary. Major mechanical work included an engine rebuild and since this work, according to MOT certificates, the Austin Healey Sprite has covered less than 3000 miles.
On the road USU 712 is fabulous fun with a responsive engine and raspy exhaust note. The ‘Frogeye' feels quick and handles the road superbly. The car is ideal for regular or long distance touring and has proven totally reliable. The car was recently driven through the Yorkshire Dales and it performed faultlessly. The car also has the benefit of full weather equipment which is in very good order.
USU 712 has a solid, straight bodyshell with no major corrosion issues. The car still retains a correct steel bonnet and the car has no areas of concern. The underside is structurally excellent and does have a very original feel to it. The upholstery has been untouched for many years and whilst this car isn't finished to a concours standard, it is absolutely ideal for regular use. This isn't a ‘Frogeye' that will win shows, it will however be an ideal choice for touring across Europe.
