OHM 933 is a genuine RHD home market car that was first registered on the 22nd May 1959. We know from the continuation 'buff' logbook that the Frogeye spent the 1970's and 1980's in Oxfordshire and it would appear from the history it was off the road during the late 1970's. By 1983 the Frogeye was reported to be in 'concours' condition and an extensive maintenance file throughout the 1980's and 1990's is with the car. The Frogeye did benefit from some restoration work in the early 1990's and from previous MOT certificates we can see the car has covered 20,800 miles since 1983.
We sold this first class example back in 2012 when it was driven 120 miles faultlessly from Cheshire. Due to faded, aged paintwork we decided to treat the car to a full re-paint and as a result the car has a first class, gleaming paint finish. We quickly sold the Frogeye to a regular customer based in Northumberland who has spent three years detailing the car to the highest of standards. Since 2012 the MKI Sprite has only covered in the region of 1800 miles but has been showed at many Northern England events. The car has been superbly detailed and has been taken from an excellent, useable example to a first class car that presents in exceptional condition. Further to detailing, the car has had thousands of pounds worth of mechanical improvements ensuring this is a truly outstanding car in every respect.
Since 2012 the engine has been treated to a replacement cylinder head with new valves and springs. The engine has been stripped and new pistons and conrod shells have been fitted. A new timing chain has been fitted and all seals ad gaskets replaced. A spin on oil filter conversion has been fitted and the car now has electronic ignition. Carburettor needles and jets have been replaced and a new water pump fitted and all coolant hoses replaced. An SU electric fuel pump, electric cooling fan and alloy rocker cover have been all fitted and whilst the under bonnet work has been carried out, the engine bay area has been superbly detailed and presents in outstanding condition. Further recent work includes a rebuilt clutch slave cylinder, wheel bearings and the brakes and suspension have been re-commissioned with all new brake drums, brake shoes, wheel cylinders, stainless brake hoses, renewed master cylinder seals, lower suspension links, fulcrum pins and polybush rear springs. The wheels have been painted, new tyres fitted and further detailed improvements include new carpets, heater trunking, door seals, hard top and Mountney steering wheel (original with the car).
As a result of the recent work the Frogeye is in outstanding mechanical condition. The car is first class to drive with an excellent engine holding superb oil pressure. The four speed gearbox is superb and the car handles and brakes perfectly. The Frogeye is a true delight on the road and does not require any work. The top class mechanical condition is matched by the beautiful cosmetics. The paintwork and bodywork are excellent, the chrome work is of a very good standard and the wheels are like new. The hard top really sets the car off and it also comes with an excellent hood and sidecreens. The interior is very smart with new carpets, delightfully aged seats and door cards and very smart dashboard. The overall condition of this car is superb and it really does meet all expectations with everything from a detailed, comprehensive history file to a stunning, top class finish and first class mechanicals. This is a very sought after UK car that is ready to be used and enjoyed and are always looking out for cars in this condition.
