There may have been faster sportscars than the Austin Healey Sprite MKI, but few have been more endearing. With its gaping grin and the pop-eyed headlamps that gave it its 'Frogeye' nickname, the model captured the hearts of enthusiasts all over.
This is a fantastic opportunity to buy an uprated 'Frogeye' Sprite that has had serious money spent. The car was with one owner from 1982 to 1998 and during this time it was mechanically overhauled (1982) and subject of a £5K body restoration (1990). Around five years ago the 'Frogeye' was stripped down and rebuilt once again with expenditure in the region of £20,000. The car was finished to an uprated specification with a lightened and balanced 1340cc engine with roller rockers and camshaft. The gearbox was overhauled and further upgrades included front disc brakes, coil spring damper unit suspension, electronic ignition and 3.7 differential. The car was fully re-trimmed and chrome wire wheels fitted. Since this work, the car has covered less than 100 miles.
This is a superb driving car with exceptional performance compared to the average Sprite MKI. This is a very quick 'Frogeye' and it handles brilliantly. The car is in first class condition throughout and has a beautifully detailed engine bay and spare wheel compartment. Due to the subtle upgrades, this has to be one of the best driving examples we have had in recent years and both performance and mechanical condition are matched by the stunning way in which the car presents.
