Our Austin Seven Ruby Deluxe was first registered on the 1st January 1936 and still retains its original registration mark CLD 517. We know from the continuation logbook that the Austin was in East Sussex by the 1960's and then in long term ownership in the Midlands during the 1970's and 1980's. During the mid 1980's the Austin headed South again and has spent time in Kent, Dorset, Cornwall and France. We have collected the car from Malvern in Worcestershire having taking the car in part exchange against a larger Austin.
During the 1980's the Austin was subject of a major restoration. The body was taken off the chassis and the chassis was completely stripped and rebuilt. Over a period of two years, every part of the Austin was either cleaned and replaced, even each nut and bolt. The body was restored as necessary and fully re-painted, the interior fully re-trimmed and the car mechanically overhauled. Shortly after restoration CLD 517 was sold to the Stratford Upon Avon Motor Museum and the car was not used for some time.
After several years in the motor museum, the Austin was sold to a British couple living in the South of France. The Austin had nicely aged since restoration and had a very genuine, honest look to it. The new owners in France had the opportunity to purchase a professionally rebuilt two bearing crankshaft engine and this was fitted in 1995. The Austin spent several years in France but only covered in the region of 1000 miles. The Austin was sold in 1999 as the owners could not justify or find time to use four classic cars. Between 1999 and 2003 the Austin had in the region of £3000 on maintenance, servicing and some further improvements. We have invoices for cleaning the fuel tank, re-lining the clutch, stripping and cleaning the carburettor, rebuilding the dynamo and many other minor improvements
Our Austin has had little use over the past 6 months and will be sold with a full 12 months MOT and service. The car has arrived in smart, tidy condition and presents well with nicely aged paintwork and a good straight, sound body in excellent structural order. The Austin does have a nice patina and has not been ‘over' restored. The interior is very smart and attractive and the underside of the car excellent. The Austin starts and runs well and the engine holds impressive oil pressure. The gearbox is smooth and easy to use and the Austin handles, brakes and drives well.
