ECX 831 was first registered on 1st July 1949 and was supplied new by Ripon Bros, Huddersfield to Edward Haigh (Wool) Ltd of Leeds. We are pleased to confirm the Bentley still retains its original West Yorkshire registration mark and a great deal of originality. The Bentley still has its correct, original 4.25 litre straight six engine and retains its delightfully aged, original leather seats that are presented in very good order. The Bentley records a mileage of 16,000, believed to be 116,000 from new and this would certainly be commensurate with the original upholstery and sound, strong and largely original running gear.
This example is an excellent driving car with a real honest feel. The paintwork is bright and presentable and in recent years have been treated to a two tone re-spray in Metallic Dark Blue over Silver. There are odd blemishes and imperfections but the body is strong, sound and in very good order. The Bentley is ideal for using on a regular basis; it has a nice aged look and certainly is a good strong usable car and has proven totally reliable since we sold the car over 12 months ago to the last owner in Norwich. The chrome work is of a very good standard and the radiator shell particularly smart without any dents. The bumpers and over riders will certainly have been re-chromed in recent times. The interior as mentioned retains lovely original upholstery, carpets have been replaced and the headlining and sun visors are excellent having being re-trimmed in 2010. The wood work is original and has a lovely patina, gauges and dials are correct and window winders operate correctly, as does the sliding sunroof.
The MKVI drives very well with a lovely strong engine holding very good oil pressure. The engine oil is clean, free from contamination and shows no signs of ever having heating issues. It runs nice and cool and performs superbly. The four speed manual gearbox is great to use and changes up and down smoothly. The Bentley does feel very precise and correct on the road and has been recently treated to new brake linings and drums all checked. In 2010 in the region of £7000 was spent on the Bentley and this included some engine work to include new valves, exhaust and cosmetic work to include local paintwork and bodywork and the re-trimming of the headlining. We will be supplying the Bentley with a full 12 months MOT, service and function check. This is not a show piece, but a good, straight honest MKVI Bentley that can be enjoyed and driven with confidence.
