JCX 110 was manufactured in November 1954 and supplied new by Ripon Bros, Huddersfield to W.C Holmes & Co with the 4.5 litre engine and automatic transmission. From the chassis number B9ZX we know the Bentley R Type was the fifth car produced from the penultimate series (ZX) of the R Type.
During the 1970's we know JCX 110 was in Epsom, Surrey and moved to North West London in 1980. In June 1983 Frank Dale & Stepsons sold the Bentley and exported it to Dallas, Texas and the car remained in the U.S until 2005. We know the Bentley moved to the State of Arizona before being shipped back to the UK from Los Angeles. On arrival back in the UK the Bentley was treated to some basic re-commissioning work but was rarely used between 2005 and 2010.
Between 2010 and 2011 the Bentley has been treated to some extensive improvements. Work costing in the region of £15,000 has been completed which included a full body strip down and re-paint with photographic record. The original interior was improved with re-veneered and polished woodwork, new section of headlining and lower door cards. Mechanically the Bentley was thoroughly checked and work included removing the cylinder head and checking the engine for wear. The engine was found to be in very good condition and the head re-fitted with new gaskets. Further improvements included a full exhaust system at the cost of over £1000, new starter motor gears costing over £500 before labour, new distributor cap and arm and new heater motor and matrix. The brakes have been inspected, a new master cylinder fitted, system bled and adjusted. The original clock and speedometer have both been repaired and now work.
As a result of the recent expenditure the Bentley is an absolute delight to drive. The Bentley performs superbly with a fabulous, strong, smooth engine and automatic gearbox which feels smooth both up and down the gears. The bodywork and paint present beautifully and whilst the chrome appears very original, it has a lovely bright finish. The interior still retains a very original feel but has been significantly improved.
JCX 110 is a lovely example that can be used and driven long distance without any hesitation. The last owner has thoroughly enjoyed the R Type and it has covered over 700 miles in the past six months.
