The Bentley R Type was introduced at the 1953 Earls Court Motor Show as the MKVI replacement. The R Type was very similar in style but the notable changes were the large boot and re-profiled rear wings. The new Bentley featured independent coil and wishbone front suspension, a leaf-sprung 'live' rear axle and servo-assisted four-wheel drum brakes. Powered by the 'big bore' 4566cc straight six engine with choice of four speed manual or automatic gearbox, the R-Type was a highly rated performer that was the subject of substantial praise from the motoring press.
This is a very original example previously owned by a former Rolls Royce employee who worked at the Crewe factory when this car was manufactured. We are told the mileage of 52000 is genuine and this fits the delightful original upholstery and general condition of the car. On the road the Bentley is quite superb with a powerful, smooth, strong engine and manual gearbox with no problems. This rare manual R Type is offered onto the market with a very good standard of bodywork, paint and chrome. The Bentley is a very useable honest example offered with 12 months MOT and a full service.
