1953 Bentley R Type

This stunning R Type Bentley was delivered to Kennings Ltd of Clay Cross on the 25th November 1953. From the original Bentley records, Glovers of Ripon Ltd actually supplied the car to its first owner in Harrogate. The Bentley was supplied with a factory fitted radio, modified drivers seat cushion and automatic gearbox.

The Bentley R Type was introduced at the 1953 Earls Court Motor Show as the MKVI replacement. The R Type was very similar in style but the notable changes were the large boot and re-profiled rear wings. The new Bentley featured independent coil and wishbone front suspension, a leaf-sprung 'live' rear axle and servo-assisted four-wheel drum brakes. Powered by the 'big bore' 4566cc straight six engine with choice of four speed manual or automatic gearbox, the R-Type was a highly rated performer that was the subject of substantial praise from the motoring press.

URA 340 spent its early life in Harrogate before migrating overseas. The Bentley returned to the U.K in 1988 and was subject of some mechanical work before being taken off the road in 1995. In early 2009 the Bentley benefitted from some re-commissioning work which included relining all the brake cylinders in stainless steel. The Bentley changed hands in 2009 and since then, has had a full program of work that has taken this stunning Bentley into top class mechanical order. Receipts are with the car totaling over £13,000 which includes a complete rebuilt transmission assembly. The Bentley is fabulous to drive with excellent performance, a perfect gearbox and strong, powerful engine. 

The top quality, older paintwork has kept a deep shine and chrome work gleams. The interior is largely original with the exception of the seats which have been re-upholstered in leather. The engine bay appears very clean and original, the large boot very smartly presented.
