1961 Borgward Isabella TS Saloon

The Borgward Isabella was in production from 1954 to 1962. The Bremen based German Company controversially went into bankruptcy in 1961 but production continued until 1962. In the end, an impressive 202,862 Borgward Isabellas rolled off the production line. This very rare saloon Borgward Isabella was first registered in London on the 4th April 1961. The first owner was a Doctor from Warwickshire who owned the car until 1964. From both brown and green 'buff' logbooks we know the Borgward spent the first few years in Warwickshire before moving to Wolverhampton in 1966. The Borgward remained in Wolverhampton until at least 1976 and soon after moved locally to West Bromwich.

The Borgward was then taken off the road for several years before being re-registered in 1986. Photographs are with the car showing some substantial restoration work during the 1980's prior to being put back on the road. Since 2004 the car has been on the South Coast in Bournemouth prior to a move North to Halifax early this year, Previous MOT certificates show the Borgward has covered little over 1300 miles since 2007 but the car has recently had a new fuel pump and re-furbished fuel tank in order to provide reliable classic motoring. The Borgward Isabella drives beautifully with a strong engine and smooth column change gearbox.

270 BLL is a good, useable car that has benefitted from some recent cosmetic improvements. This rare car is not worthy of winning shows but it has lots of character and presents well with bright paintwork and chrome. The Borgward is structurally sound but it is not without the odd blemish or imperfection. The interior is original in many respects and has recently had the dashboard re-conditioned. The seats are original and in good order, the headlining is also original but would benefit from replacement.

According to the owners' club sources, this is only one of four Saloons known to be still on the road in the UK. This remarkably rare car retains its original registration number and is sold with a full 12 months MOT and service.
