Our MD bought this on a recent trip to Canada, travelling over the Rainbow Bridge at Niagara Falls to view this classic Chevy in Buffalo, New York State. He was once a GM Dealer Principal and remembers executives from Detroit expounding the virtues of Chevrolet cars when offering a UK franchise in the 70's. They made a particular point of mentioning the vast distances these cars had to travel reliably in the U.S. The UK team were surprised when told only three dealers would be appointed for the UK and asked what sort of support their customers would get if they experienced a breakdown on a long run. The GM executive's answer was memorable: 'Your little island is only 800 miles long, where are you gonna go for a long run? True to form, having spent a few weeks at sea from New Jersey the old girl drove to Yorkshire at a steady 55MPH and never missed a beat.
Production of the Chevrolet Styleline began in 1949. It was considered to be among the best-looking GM products produced. With it's legendary inline ‘Stovebolt six' engine and three speed manual box it is so reminiscent of a giant Vauxhall Velox. The styling influences are clear to see.
This manual-shift model sports a 92-horsepower, 216.5-cubic-inch rendition of the Stovebolt Six. Given the size, the car was quite economical for its era with owners reporting up to 25MPG. It certainly wasn't thirsty on the more than 200 miles home.
An older restoration, the Chevrolet is now undergoing preparation for an M.O.T. and UK registration. To our knowledge this is the only 4 door Styleline presently for sale in the UK and is great value. It comes with a boot full of spares, as well as some lovely original brochures and literature
