The Citroen 2CV was in production for 42 years from 1948 to 1990. With assembly plants in the UK, Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal, Chile and Argentina, over 3 million 2CV's were produced worldwide. The 2CV is considered as one of Citroens most iconic cars and in 1953, a technical review in 'Autocar' wrote of "the extraordinary ingenuity of this design, which is undoubtedly the most original since the Model T Ford". When production began in 1948, the level of technology was remarkable for a car of any price in that era, let alone one of the cheapest cars on the planet. While colours and detail specifications were modified in the ensuing 42 years, the biggest mechanical change was the addition of front discs brakes in 1981.
This low mileage 2CV was supplied new by Haw's Garage Ltd, York in 1983. The car comes with all originally supplied documentation including handbooks, service book and stamped optional anti-corrosion guarantee booklet. The Citroen has only changed hands once in 1986 staying local in the York/Malton area. With only two owners and 52,000 miles from new, this is a very honest, original car that has had weekend use.
Our 2CV is great fun on the road and it drives particularly well. Driven here from York, it has no problems keeping up with modern traffic and it has come to us in excellent mechanical order. The interior is original and tidy, the bodywork structurally excellent and paintwork bright but far from perfect considering it is 28 years old and original. Still holding it's originally supplied number plates, this low mileage example is an ideal classic to be using on a regular basis.
