This stunning Daimler V8250 was collected by us in Fife, Scotland and driven 230 miles to North Yorkshire. VYK 883G performed faultlessly on the five hour journey south and was relaxed, comfortable and effortless to drive. The Daimler is capable of long distance touring as proven and on both A roads and motorways kept up with modern traffic. The Daimler does not overheat, holds correct oil pressure and has a smooth, faultless automatic transmission and power assisted steering. VYK 883G is truly first class to drive and certainly amongst the very best examples on the road that we've had in recent years. The Daimler has some highly desirable upgrades that enhance the drive and ensure that it is amongst the best driving Daimler V8's available.
VYK 883G has only covered 1500 miles since a seven year rebuild that was completed in 2012 and this explains why the car is such a precise, tight driving car in excellent mechanical order. The engine was completely stripped, re-bored and the crankshaft re-ground. The cylinder heads were rebuilt with new valve guides and stainless steel valves and springs. The camshaft was replaced, cam followers refaced and rockers stripped and refaced. The timing chain and tensioner were replaced, as was the oil pump and pressure relief valve. The water pump was re-conditioned, a spin on oil filter fitted and a new aluminium radiator and electric fan fitted. The gearbox was stripped and re-conditioned, the torque converter replaced and a gearbox oil cooler fitted. The rear axle was changed for a 3.7 to 1 ratio axle for more relaxed cruising; something that really does make this car even more impressive at higher speeds. New bearings and oil seals were fitted and the pinion seal replaced. Re-conditioned rear calipers, copper brake pipes, stainless flexible hoses, new rear discs, shockers, spring pads and bushes were all fitted and the front axle stripped down and rebuilt. The front end was treated to new top and bottom ball joints, track rod ends, drag link bushes, steering idler bushes, front shock absorbers, steering joints and gaiters and power steering hoses. Further work to the brake system included a new servo and brake master cylinder. A new fuel tank and mountings and electric fuel pump were fitted and the electrics renewed and Halogen headlights fitted for improved visibility at night.
Adding to the comprehensive list of work carried out, the bodyshell was found to be in very original condition and required the usual work to include new inner and outer sills and crow's feet. The doors were stripped and found to be in excellent order. The body was prepared for painting and treated to eight coats of base coat and lacquer resulting in a stunning, first class paint finish. The underneath was taken to bare metal, painted and waxoyled and cavity injected for further rust protection. All body rubbers and seals were replaced and the bumpers, over-riders, boot plinth, headlamp surrounds, door handles, windscreen trims and grill were re-chromed. A brand new set of chrome wire wheels were purchased and the interior treated to brand new leather seats, all new door cards, panels, carpets, headlining and re-veneered and polished woodwork, completing a long term restoration that results in a stunning, first class Daimler V8250 that is ready to use and enjoy. VYK 883G presents beautifully with a stunning finish, has a high quality re-trimmed upholstery and is offered in outstanding mechanical condition and is truly fantastic to drive. This is a unique opportunity to purchase a Daimler that has covered so little mileage since a seven year programme of work that would cost well in excess of our asking price to replicate.
