RKX 364D was first registered on the 1st August 1966 and left the factory in Indigo blue with grey leather upholstery. We first sold the Daimler in 1997 as a remarkably original example that had a recorded mileage of little over 60,000 miles. Whilst the mileage could not be guaranteed, it was believed to be correct and to support this, the Daimler retained good quality original leather upholstery and original door cards and headlining. Prior to selling the car in 1997, the Daimler has been with one owner in Gloucester since 1989 and therefore we know the car has had just two owners in 24 years.
The Daimler came back to us in 2013 with a recorded mileage of 66,000 but the elderly owner had covered just 96 miles between 2006 and 2007 and 25 miles in 2008. The car was then stored and did not move until arriving with us in 2013. Having not moved for several years we carried out some basic re-commissioning to include stripping and rebuilding the front and rear brake calipers, fitting two new anti-roll bar kits, a new track rod assembly, replaced the heater valve and seal, fitted a new bump stop, fitted new handbrake return springs and set up the carbs. The Daimler was fully serviced and MOT tested. The Daimler was then treated to a strip down to bare metal and was fully re-painted in its original colour of Indigo Blue. Photos were taken of the work and on completion and on re-fit all chrome work was cleaned up.
When agreeing the sale of the Daimler to the most recent owners, further work was agreed and carried out. The car was treated to a brand new headlining, the dash top re-veneered and polished and some re-chroming work was carried out. Since selling the car, the Daimler has covered a further 1500 miles or so and has been even further improved with over £8000 spent. Work includes having the automatic transmission rebuilt, the steering box rebuilt, a new power steering pipe and seals, new oil cooler hoses, gearbox mountings, new rocker cover gaskets, new fuel pump, new ball joint gaiters, new oil pump seal, new copper brake pipes and regular servicing. RKX 364D has been maintained over the past four years with no expense spared and is a strong, reliable car that is capable of regular use. The engine runs beautifully with very good oil pressure, the rebuilt gearbox changes perfectly and the car handles very well with lovely power steering and efficient brakes.
The Daimler presents well with smart paintwork with a deep shine, some of the chrome work is showing signs of pitting but the car has been used all year round. This is certainly not a show piece, but a good, strong largely original example that can be driven with confidence. The upholstery is very honest with its 50 year old plus leather work still in place and the car represents excellent value for money having had so much spent on it over the past few years.
