Until 2019 this beautifully presented, matching numbers Daimler 250 V8 Saloon spent its entire life in New Zealand and arrived into the UK with an outstanding bodyshell having had the benefits of a Southern Hemisphere climate. The Daimler comes with some original ownership paperwork confirming the car was sold new to a Mr Vernon Mathews in Christchurch 1, registered new on the 24th July 1963. Having owned the car for six years, Croydon Motors Limited in Christchurch sold the Daimler in 1969 to a Company who owned the car for four years. In 1973 it was owned by a couple in Christchurch 2 and by the late 1970’s the Daimler headed further south to Ashburton where it stayed with several owners up to the 1990’s. It would seem from the paperwork the Daimler was off the road throughout the early 2000’s but in 2010 the car was up in the Northland in Kerikeri where it was subject of a comprehensive restoration.
The Daimler was stripped down and treated to full re-paint which has been carried out to an excellent standard. The chrome work was renewed, and the car treated to all new rubbers. The interior was fully re-trimmed with Magnolia leather, new door cards, headlining, carpets, re-finished woodwork and instruments overhauled. Mechanically the Daimler was treated to an engine rebuild to include line boring the block, new pistons, machining the crankshaft, new main and big end bearings, new timing chain and tensioners and rebuilding the cylinder heads. Carburettors were overhauled, the water pump rebuilt, fuel pump replaced, and a new thermostat and viscus fan fitted. Further mechanical work included new ball joints, brake overhaul, wiring and replacement of various ignition items. New tyres and chrome wire wheels were fitted and nine years later the Daimler still presents beautifully.
In March 2019 the Daimler was imported to the UK having been purchased for in the region of £25,000 plus shipping and has had one Midlands based owner since. The Daimler was UK registered and allocated the registration mark WRT 220A and has since had some gentle mileage over the summer months prior to coming to us in part exchange against an Aston Martin Volante. The V8 has arrived in showroom condition boasting a beautiful paint finish, exceptional straight bodyshell with excellent panel gaps, gleaming brightwork and a lovely presented interior trim. On the road WRT 220A is impressive having covered very little mileage since its engine rebuild and mechanical overhaul. The V8 engine pulls beautifully holding correct oil pressure, gear changes are smooth, and the Daimler handles wonderfully. This is a fabulous looking car, is structurally outstanding and ideal for regular use.
