1973 Ferrari Daytona 365/GTB4
This magnificent UK supplied Ferrari 365/GTB4 Daytona has covered just 19,350 miles from new and comes with an excellent history to include original bill of sale and official Ferrari Certificazione di authenticita. This is an absolutely unrepeatable opportunity to buy not only a rare RHD example, but a car with exceptionally low mileage.
The car was supplied new to a fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors who set up his property investment company in West London in 1967. With the original bill of sale from Maranello Concessionaires Ltd in Surrey comes all purchase correspondence including letters from the first owner when ordering the car. The Daytona changed hands for the first time in 1978, moving north to Chesterfield with just 12,869 miles covered. The car was owned by the Director of two Company's in the building and motor sectors and MOT certificates from 1978 to 1998 show the Ferrari covered just 3000 miles in 20 years. Whilst with its second owner, the car was treated to a full complete colour change from Blue Chiaro Metallic to Rosso Corsa but due to the incredible low usage, the original and totally correct Beige VM 3218 leather upholstery was still in exceptional condition by the time the car was sold in 1998.
The Ferrari was then part of 'The Litchfield Collection' for the next thirteen years, covering just a further 1000 miles. Annual MOT's show the Daytona was kept roadworthy but significant expenditure over this period was between 2006 and 2007 when over £26,000 was spent on body refurbishment work a full bare metal re-paint with a Durham based restoration specialist. In 2011 the super car was sold to its fourth owner based in Jersey who has covered a further 3000 miles. On initial purchase in 2011 the 'new' owner had the car thoroughly checked over with a Gloucestershire based Ferrari specialists and spent £55,000, mainly on mechanical work to take the car to a first-class standard. Further invoices during the six years of ownership for maintenance takes the total expenditure closer to £60,000.
Work included a complete Daytona exhaust system supplied at a cost of £4300 alone, the braking system was completely dismantled and overhauled, the suspension was also dismantled, rebuilt and many components sandblasted and zinc plated, ball joints were replaced, shockers overhauled and the ignition system was completely gone through with many new parts. The working air conditioning system was re-charged, brand new correct Michelin XWX tyres were also fitted, some wiring work carried out and the gear linkage UJ replaced. Essentially the car was completely re-commissioned as recommended by a marque specialist with no expense spared. After almost six years, £60,000 worth of mechanical work and 3000 miles the Ferrari was sold and has been with a private collector since.
This impressive, highly desirable car has huge provenance and with its remarkable mileage has the potential to be one of the very best examples in the world. The car also comes with its original manuals, leather wallet, tool kits/rolls (change hands for thousands of pounds), original sales brochure, correct and valuable Cromodora wheels and the hugely expensive and important Ferrari Certificazione di authenticita that confirms the car is a matching numbers UK car in with its original engine that has not been modified. The paperwork also confirms the suspension is the original system, as is the braking system and gearbox and differential are original to the car with the numbers stamped into the correct areas. The chassis plate is also in the original position as verified in Modena, Italy when having the inspection carried out.
