1970 Fiat 500L

Over recent years, the Fiat 500 has grown into a true icon and nice examples are becoming increasingly hard to find. The Fiat 500 was launched in 1957 and is considered as one of the first city cars. The 500 proved to be an enormously practical and popular vehicle throughout Europe and today have an incredibly strong following.

This stunning Fiat 500L was built in Italy and first registered in late 1970. We do not know the vehicles early history but we do know it was purchased from an elderly gentleman in Palermo in 2007 who had owned the car for many years. The Fiat was in need of work and was purchased by a UK based couple, the wife being Italian and buying the vehicle on of their many regular trips to Italy. The Fiat was taken to an Italian Company who replaced the floor pans, the battery tray and carried out various metal work. The Fiat was then put into prima and shipped to England.

On arrival in the UK the Fiat was totally re-painted in its original colour, all the chromework was replaced and a brand new interior sourced. For reasons unknown, the car was only 95% completed and was purchased by a new owner in 2008. At this point the car was completed, put through a UK MOT test and registered. Various mechanical work was required having spent many years off the road. For example, a re-conditioned cylinder head was fitted with original rocker tubes, the distributor were replaced, the carburettor stripped and rebuilt and a new fuel pump and actuating rod fitted. Later in August 2011 the Fiat was fitted with electronic ignition, fitted into an original distributor and upgraded HT leads were also purchased. Other improvements include new wheel bearings and re-conditioned stub axles.

The Fiat presents superbly with stunning paintwork and an excellent bodyshell. The chromework is excellent throughout and the car nicely detailed with a quality finish. The engine bay is impressive and the red upholstery is in beautiful condition. AKE 224J is mechanically excellent with a strong, responsive engine, smooth gearbox and has superb handling and braking. The Fiat is fabulous driver, ideal for taking to shows and rallies.
