This truly outstanding, showroom condition and original Ford Capri 280 Brooklands has covered just 12,000 miles from new and is finished in immaculate condition. Equipped with its original sales pack to include service booklet, handbook, Ford Audio handbook, Accessories booklet, Ford Motorists Guide, Operating Guide, Dealer Guide and Capri 280 original brochure, this car not only is a first class example, but it has paperwork and provenance to ensure it’s a true collectors piece.
The original service booklet confirms the Ford was supplied new on the 3rd December 1987 by I Blake & Co Limited in Birkenhead. The supplying dealer carried out the cars first two services at 908 miles in January 1988 and 3919 miles in June 1988. The Ford stayed with its first owner until 1992, when he sold it to the proprietor of a Birkenhead based motor business. The second owner purchased the car and stored it, realising at an early stage the rarity, desirability and future investment potential of the 280. In 2005, the third owner purchased the car at 10400 genuine miles, he was a retired Quality Engineer at Fords Transmission Plant for 40 years. The Capri was his pride and enjoy, and a letter in the well documented history file confirms he even drove the car 25 miles to show the first original owner the car so he could see it was still in excellent condition and in very safe hands.
In 2014, the fourth and most recent owner purchased the car, mileage 12037. Over the past six years the Capri has been part of a wonderful collection of motor cars owned by a prominent Yorkshire classic car collector. Whilst the 280 has covered very few miles since 2014, it has been kept in outstanding condition having a meticulous owner who ensures all his cars present in showroom condition. Whilst the car was purchased in 2014 in top class order, the owner spent £4660 pounds in 2016 ensuring the car was truly show standard. The engine and gearbox were removed, gaskets replaced, the units painted, and the restorers were instructed to re-zinc all necessary components and ancillaries. The alternator and starter motor were re-conditioned, and the cylinders heads converted to run on unleaded. With the engine and ancillaries removed, the engine bay was re-painted as per original spec. The rear axle and suspension were stripped, blasted and components zinc plated as required and the fuel tank replaced. Finally, the original wheels were professionally re-painted ensuring the car was presented in condition for display purposes.
This 280 Brooklands has arrived with us requiring nothing at all, its truly outstanding in every respect. The bodywork and Brooklands Green metallic paintwork are exceptional, the underside first class, and as expected, this 280 has never required welding work. All exterior trims and decals are pristine, the glass registration mark etched, and the original additional security Yale locks fitted when new are still in place. The under bonnet is show standard, finished to an exceptional high standard and the interior first class, original and commensurate with the ultra-low mileage. The high-quality Raven leather with Burgundy piped Recaro designed seats are stunning, the deep pile Grey carpets spotless and the tight, clean original headlining is excellent. Overall, this is a top quality low mileage, original car and we are pleased to report its just as impressive on the road having arrived with us in excellent mechanical order.
