This is an incredibly rare car and we are told its just one of seven original Broadspeed MKI’s Capri’s in the World. Broadspeed were a Ford dealer and they offered a modified Capri called the Broadspeed Bullit with an incredible specification to include Stage 2 engine conversion involving modified cylinder heads, high lift camshaft, new inlet manifold and a re-designed exhaust system. Suspension modifications included Armstrong adjustable 22 telescopic shocks at the rear and smaller roll bar was fitted at the front to reduce the cars normal under steer. Improved brake pads were fitted and optional extra’s included Minilite wheels, Restall bucket seats, electric fan, air horns and leather steering wheel. Externally the front end was altered and the car had no front bumper, fitted with an anti-lift spoiler instead. The lighting included quartz iodine headlamps and the externals finished with louvres below the rear window and a top side two tone paint finish.
The Bullit was said to achieve 0-60mph in 7.2 seconds and a top speed was reported to be 126mph. This was an incredibly fast car in its day and does have racing history from the 1980's and 1990's at Brighton Speed trials, Brands Hatch, North Weald, Bruntingthorpe, Castle Combe, Lyddon Hill, Oulton Park and Goodwood. The Capri has sprinted all round the country and at one point was fitted with a genuine Cologne bodykit. When the owner retired, he then treated the Capri to a bare shell rebuild using genuine new Capri panels. The body was restored to exactly how it would have left the factory with the exception that the shell was fully seam welded inside and out but the fibreglass rear bulkhead retained. The engine was fully rebuilt to Stage 3 specification (Osseli Ported and Polished) running a 750 four barrel Holley carburettor and Oselli and Broadspeed original engine bay plates were retained and are on the vehicle.
In 2013 £10,000 was spent on a light restoration to include a full re-paint, new front seats, new door cards, re-furbished alloy wheels, various new chromework, engine bay and chassis detailing work. Having covered less than 1000 miles since, the Capri is absolutely stunning with exceptional straight panels, a stunning body colour underside and the interior work all looks beautiful. More recent work in 2015 and 2016 includes fitting a new Lumenition ignition system, new front crank seal, new camshaft drive gear, various new brake pipes, brake servo, brake master cylinder and general brake service, new temperature sender unit and alternator belt.
There is no doubt this is a wonderful opportunity to purchase a very special car with excellent background and provenance. NJX 555J is not only a fantastic investment opportunity, it is a quick, cult classic retro Fast Ford that is truly outstanding to drive. This Capri is great fun, and is supplied in strong mechanical order freshly serviced and with 12 months MOT, and looks in exceptional order with top class paintwork, a first class painted underside, stunning engine bay, superb straight bodyshell and a gorgeous, well presented interior. This is a great buy, and not many like it will come up for sale.
