This RHD Ford Consul has come to us in part exchange and is finished in two tone Beige and Maroon. The car originally started life in full colour and the original Beige paintwork is still in place under the bonnet and in the boot area. Its clear the car is quite original in many areas although it has had the bottom half painted Maroon. The interior has been re-trimmed at some point and it does present well.
The Ford starts on the button, sounds fit and healthy and drives well. The engine feels strong, the column change gearbox is nice to use. Invoices in the file from recent years tell us the Consul has had new brake shoes, new wheel cylinders all round, new bearings and new gearbox mounts. The Ford has had the radiator re-cored, the carb rebuilt, the cylinder head removed, and decoked and electronic ignition and a new distributor fitted.
Whilst this is not a restoration project, the car could benefit from some improvements, particularly to the door bottoms where blistering is evident. The front bumper is also badly pitted and the engine bay very original and would benefit from cosmetic improvements. Whilst we are selling the car in its current condition at an attractive price, our Bodyshop can discuss/quote for carrying out door bottom repairs and improvements if required. The Consul MKI is a nice useable car, it can be further fettled, improved but also enjoyed exactly as it is. This is a great starter, great runner and an ideal entry into the classic car world with room to add value.
