This beautifully restored Ford Consul MKI has arrived with from Essex in exceptional condition. RXM 202 was first registered on 15th November 1955 and first came to us in 2007 with a mileage believed genuine of 64036. In the following two years, the Ford covered just 50 miles, coming back to us in 2009 with 64096 miles. We then sold the MKI Consul to its most recent owner as a largely original example. The car was a solid, honest, genuine and usable example in good mechanical order but required cosmetic attention to paintwork and the engine bay.
In September 2012 a rolling shell restoration commenced and by December the Ford was stripped down with wings, doors and bonnet removed, all glass out, interior fully stripped out, engine bay fully stripped down with engine out and the front end fully dismantled. A full photographic record superbly documents the work that included all panels being repaired with new metal as required. The underbody was fully stripped back, then prepared, prima coated and re-painted in the cars original colour of Dorchester Grey. The underside components were all treated, primed and re-painted to ensure a stunning underbody finish.
By early 2013 with the interior fully removed, the inside floor panels were all painted in body colour, all panels were painted off the car, the bodyshell fully re-painted to include boot and engine bay compartment and then all removed components were restored as required whilst removed from the car. By June 2013 the bodyshell was fully completed, painted and ready for re-fit. Between July and September panels were re-fitted to the rebuilt shell, new rubbers were fitted, all re-chromed brightwork re-fitted to the car as well as the detailed components and superbly detailed engine unit. In the November, the interior was re-trimmed with a new wool headlining, new carpets, furflexes, re-trimmed seats and door cards. In May 2014 the Ford Consul restoration was completed and ready for rallies, shows and events.
RXM 202 is a beautifully finished example in exceptional structural condition with a delightful, gleaming paint finish with stunning chrome throughout. This MKI Consul will not look out of place on the show scene and with a gleaming, beautifully detailed underside and engine bay, the car has potential of winning local shows and events. The interior has been beautifully trimmed, the attention to detail is second to none, and the car will not disappoint. In over 18 months this early Consul was carefully restored with no expense spared, hundreds of hours of labour have gone into the refurbishment program and the results are a beautifully presented, usable example that requires no major expenditure. Finished in its original colours of Dorchester Grey with Dark Red trim, the car looks totally correct and on the road is an absolute delight with a lovely sweet, strong engine, excellent gearbox and the Ford feels nimble, tight and correct with lovely handling. RXM 202 has had relatively low use since completion and will be supplied to its next owner with a full 12 months MOT and freshly serviced.
