This is an outstanding motor car and true one off. Our Ford Escort MKI features the running gear from one of the stunt cars in the 2013 film Fast & Furious 6, and even more impressive, the actual car that made the famous jump in the film. The famous scene saw a Ford MKI RS1600 driven by Paul Walker take an outrageous jump across a highway that was filmed on the Canary Islands. Several stunt cars were badly damaged in making the film, and our car took the jump and was understandably a complete wreck having carried out the stunt.
On its return to UK, the remains of the car including the running gear were purchased by a classic car collector who wanted to rebuild the car and replicate the RS1600 in the Blockbuster movie that grossed over $799 million worldwide. In order to keep its Fast & Furious 6 history alive, a brand-new shell was completely built, a project that cost in the region of £55,000. Prior to coming into the hands of the previous owner, in the region of £8000 had already gone into the running gear so considering the orignal purchase price, its likely this project has cost closer to £70,000 in reality. The engine, still with jump car scrawled on top of the engine is understandably the heartbeat of this car, but the condition is literally brand new. This car has been completely rebuilt from scratch and is quite simply outstanding in every respect. The shell has been superbly built, the underside is no doubt more impressive, cleaner and better than when it left the factory in 1972 and its quite clear from the condition, this has been built with absolutely no expense spared. A huge file of invoices are present in the vehicles history file, along with plenty of photos of the car including some from the depot with the all of the other movie cars including the military tank.
The Escort has covered just a few miles since completion but on its immediate arrival we road tested the car and its outrageous on the road. Its unbelievable fun, its quick, powerful, noisy, but importantly it drives absolutely right and is commensurate with how it looks and meets our comments that this has been a non-expense spared project. The spec is impressive, we have the 2.0 litre Vauxhall Redtop engine from the movie stunt car that has been rebuilt using Kent Road rally cams, rebuilt Weber carbs, Quaife 4 speed straight cut gearbox, SBD Motorsport ECU and wiring loom (interestingly SBD Motorsport made the ECU and wiring loom for all of the stunt cars), Gaz adjustable coil over suspension on both front and rear, 2 piece halfshafts - 5.1 CWP, 3J LSD, Cosworth caliper conversion, 6 linked and turreted rear end, Cosworth rear brakes, Wilwood 4 pot front brakes, Compbrake bias pedal box and adjuster, custom made propshaft, Racetech dash unit and clocks, Sparco R100 seats, sliders and harnesses and 2.4 Quick steering rack with racing steering wheel, JBW Minilight wheels, Perspex side windows with sliders, FIA roll cage, Ralloy alloy radiator and Revo Tech blow fan, Hella Rallye spotlamps, Ralloy boot fuel tank and Facet Redtop fuel pump and Filter King fuel filter and regulator.
This car will provide years and years of enjoyment and will always have the Movie provenance that makes this MKI Escort a true one off. It will look incredible on display as part of a collection, but you will have more fun driving this car and using it to is maximum potential. Its set up perfectly, its ready to enjoy and the condition is quite simply subline in every respect. We love interesting cars and this will be a difficult one to repeat.
