Goodwood Revival 2019

Published: 18-Sep-19

This was the first year in our 28 year history that we have exhibited at Goodwood Revival and having made the 280 mile trip back North, we can now reflect on what has been a truly sensational weekend and one we will not forget in a hurry.

We initially transported 13 cars to Sussex and wanted to demonstrate the variety and eclectic mix of cars we sell. We showcased an Aston Martin DB6, two Jaguar E-Type's, a Daimler V8250, retro 1999 Mini, original factory demonstrator MG Midget, special edition 60th anniversary Caterham Seven, Shelby GT500, Jaguar MKIV DHC, Porsche 356 Cabriolet and 993 GT2 and two pre war cars, the Mille Miglia MG PB and Rover 10 Coupe.

Our Goodwood extended weekend started on the Wednesday with transport and setting up our double plot stand with vintage marquee and by Thursday PM everything was in place. At 8.30am Friday we sold our beautiful Mille Miglia MG PB to a Surrey based lady who drove the car home on Sunday without hesitation. More sales soon followed on the Friday with the Rover 10 Coupe, Mini and Porsche 356 Cabriolet all displaying sold signs by late Friday afternoon. Our three-car enclosed transporter travelled down late Friday, Matt our dedicated driver arrived on site at 11pm for the team to drive the sold cars off site and replace them with a Jaguar XK150 DHC, Renault Caravelle and MG PA.

By Saturday 7.30am we were back on site, now joined by one of our long term regular customers, Lee Marshall and later in the day a lights behind the grill Series One Land Rover joined us on the stand and is now safely back in Yorkshire with us and marketed. Day two saw the sale of our wonderful Renault Caravelle to one of our loyal long-term customers and later in the day a Kent based lady purchased our incredibly rare Factory Demonstrator/Press MG Midget. With no time to change cars over, our dedicated team enjoyed some live music, good food and beer on Saturday evening ahead of the final day.

On Sunday we were delighted to be joined by another customer of ours, Owen Lavington who had offered to support us on sales. During the day we sold our beautifully presented MG PA to a gentleman from France and our Caterham stayed in the South with a Brighton-based buyer. Sunday afternoon saw the famous St Mary's Trophy race at 15.55 with long term Szkiler family friend Richard Butterfield racing his Jaguar MKI. A fabulous weekend was finished off with a true racing experience as I was given access by Richard to watch this highly prestigious race with his team on the track. Thank you Richard.....

After several 16 hour days on our feet, Monday morning we cleared the stand and our team were back in Yorkshire by late evening having had a hugely successful and fun-packed weekend. Often in business we measure success with sales and numbers, and yes, I am delighted with £345,000 of sales over the weekend, but there has been a more important element this weekend, and that's relationships. It has been wonderful to meet lots of new people and we have some fabulous new customers from the weekend who I'm sure we will build strong relationships with in the future. I must however pass on my special thanks for the support the business has had from people who we can honestly call friends, not just customers. It was touching to have so many people spend hours and hours over the weekend on our stand, Peter Geary from Worcestershire with his son Richard, Nev Padfield from South Wales, Paul Bourgeois based in Yorkshire, Lee Marshall from Leicestershire, Owen Lavington from Sussex, East Yorkshire Thoroughbred Car Club former Chairman and Treasurer Neil and Kath Kirk from Hull, and the many other regular customers who made an effort to spend some time with us. Your support is greatly appreciated and made what was an incredible weekend even more special. A final thanks goes to our fantastic team both at Goodwood, and back in Malton for ensuring business ran smoothly.
