International Police Association 3 Region Plan to Drive across the USA in a Morris Minor

Published: 21-Mar-13

Members of the International Police Association 3 Region plan to drive across the USA for charity. The chosen route is the full length of Highway 50 ending at Ocean City and goes through 11 states over a distance of 3073 miles.

The route traverses mountains, desert, farm land, forest locations and even passes directly outside one of the most famous residences in the world, the White House. It is in parts of Nevada known as the Loneliest Road in the US and some of it runs along the route used by the Famous Pony Express route. They will then attend Police Week in Washington before auctioning the car to raise funds with all proceeds to go to the National Police Memorial Day.

James Szkiler, Classic & Sportscar Centre was contacted by Scarborough Police officer Mark Faunt, Vice Chair 3 Region as search for a suitable Morris Minor began back in early February and decided the project was something the Company would like to support.

James Szkiler said "3 Region of the IPA contacted us to see if we had a Morris Minor that could be transformed into a police car. We had just the vehicle and we at Classic and Sportscar Centre decided that the charity drive was something we would like to assist in and help with the colour change and parts etc. We wish Mark and Dave and the rest of the IPA the best of luck."

The vehicle has now been fully stripped down and re-painted in Police colours by Classic & Sportscar Centre's bodyshop, Malton Coachworks. The Classic & Sportscar Centre workshop have prepared the Morris for a new MOT, serviced it, re-commissioned brakes and fitted a new clutch.

Dave Taylor, Section UK Secretary General and Chair 3 Region said, "We are grateful to James for his assistance. Mark Faunt, came up with the idea last year and the 3 Region Committee decided that this was an excellent adventure to raise money and publicise the IPA. The hard work now commences with planning and logistics and we hope to update the rest of the IPA membership over the next coming months. This year the vehicle will be at the 3 Region AGM, NCM in Torquay and the WPFG in Belfast."
