1968 Jaguar 240

Our British Racing Green Jaguar 240 was first registered on the 4th April 1968. The Jaguar was manufactured on the 22nd March and was dispatched on the 3rd April in British Racing Green with Black ambla upholstery. The original distributor was Glovers of Ripon, Harrogate and the dealership Sherwood Bros of Darlington sold the car new to Music Hire Group, Leeds.

The last owner bought this superb driving example in November 2000 and nicknamed the car 'Tarrant' having bought the car using prize money from the ITV programme 'Who wants to be a Millionaire'. Since paying £9700 for the car back in 2000, the last owner spent over £14000 on improvements that have given confidence in using the car for regular longer distance journeys. Improvements and upgrades include a new alternator, electronic ignition, Kenlowe fan, new tyres and new stainless steel exhaust. Further work includes rebuilding the rear suspension, front and rear brake, front suspension and steering overhaul. The Jaguar has succesfully completed the Burnhope Run in 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005, the Eskdale Run in 2002, the Bobby Shafto Hills of the North run in 2003 and the Yorkshire Dales Trial in 2004. Up to and during 2010, the Jaguar has regularly attended shows all over the North of England. Regular trips to the Scottish Borders, Cumbria, Northumberland and Yorkshire have been thoroughly enjoyed with hassle free, reliable classic motoring.

When the Jaguar was purchased in 2000, the owner was interviewed and photographed for the Northern Echo. The car also later featured in Classic Cars Magazine and Practical Classics. All articles are with the history file. Adding to the Heritage Certificate, invoices for over £14000 and magazine articles are MOT certificates dating back to 1980 when the mileage was just 69,248. By 1990 the mileage was recorded at 76,254 and with very little mileage covered throughout the 1990's, in 2000 the car had just 76,885 miles when purchased by the last owner. Almost eleven years on, the Jaguar has covered over 20,000 miles taking the mileage to 98,500. Every journey has been logged since 2000 and this information is present with the car. Four notebooks detail the eleven years and 21,634 miles which includes several visits to us here at Classic & Sportscar Centre.

A proven, reliable Jaguar in excellent mechanical order.
