1964 Jaguar E-Type Series I 3.8 FHC

BPF 3B is a RHD UK supplied matching numbers E-Type that was manufactured on the 5th February 1964. The Jaguar was despatched on the 19th February and supplied new to a Mr D Jones of Walton on Thames, Surrey and the car still retains its original Surrey registration mark. The E-Type was supplied new by H W Motors, Walton on Thames and has spent its entire life in the UK as an original right-hand drive car.

From paperwork with the car we can see the E-Type has covered just 81,000 miles from new. We have MOT records from 1974/75 and 1976/77 when the car was tested in Woking and Guilford at 69322 and 75417 miles and the E-Type was then off the road for thirteen years, re-tested in 1990 at 75468 miles. The E-Type was back on the road for just four years, laid up again in 1994 at 76200 miles for seventeen years until 2011. The E-Type was purchased by the last owner in 2010 and during his ownership the car has covered 6000 miles and has been treated to some major mechanical work. Interestingly, the V5 only records three owners from new, changing hands to the last owner in 2010 and prior to that with one owner for 25 years from 1985.

During almost eight years of ownership the E-Type has been used for regular weekend UK touring during summer months. Over this time the car has been incredibly well maintained and a comprehensive file of invoices is with the car. The most major work carried out has been an engine strip down that included a crankshaft re-grind, new bearings, new core plugs, various new oil seals, flywheel and re-facing the cylinder head and fitting and machining new valves. Other work and expenditure over recent years included new master cylinder and slave cylinder, rebuilding all three carburettors and manifold linkages, re-conditioned high efficiency radiator, four new Vredestein classic tyres and stripping and rebuilding the rear axle and then shot blasting the casing. Other improvements include an uprated cooling fan with controller, fuel pump, re-conditioned alternator, new anti-roll bar bushes and link bushes, Kevlar hose kit, new thermostat and gasket, stainless steel braided hoses, stainless steel exhaust system and rebuilt upper and lower ball joints.

BPF 3B is a brilliant driver, the engine runs beautifully with excellent performance and great oil pressure. The 3.8 unit sounds superb and delivers impressive power. The Moss gearbox is lovely to use and changes up and down smoothly. With a rebuilt rear axle there are no unusual sounds and the E-Type handles superbly with direct steering and sharp brakes. The E-Type was last re-painted several years back and has a deep bright Red finish. The chrome work is of a very high standard, painted wire wheels are excellent, and the car is structurally very strong and solid. The body is not that of a fully rebuilt top class car but it presents nicely and is very well presented. The interior is similar in that its presentable but was probably replaced when put back on the road in 1990 so is far from perfect. The E-Type is an ideal user, it drives superbly and is ideal for long distance touring and regular driving. It's far from a show car but is a sensibly priced, great driving strong E-Type that can be either used as it is, or further improved on the cosmetics. UK Matching Numbers Series One cars are in high demand and this should prove a great buy.
