PAK 839H is a matching numbers UK car that was supplied new on the 22nd June 1970 in Regency Red with Black leather trim to J Sylvester Engineering Co Ltd, Bradford. The E-Type was distributed out of the Automobile Centre in Leeds, dispatched to Appleyard Turf Motors and has resided between Yorkshire and Lancashire for its entire life. Paperwork with the car tells us the Jaguar had left Yorkshire and was in Accrington, Lancashire by 1976 and in 1988 the E-Type changed hands again staying within the same town and with the next owner for 19 years. In 2007 we bought the E-Type and sold the car to a family friend in Sheffield who has owned the car for 11 years.
This is still quite an original car and the mileage of 84,000 is believed to be genuine. Paperwork in the file confirms in 1988 PAK 839H had its only restoration, benefitting from an engine rebuild to include new pistons, re-ground crankshaft, timing chains, unleaded head and new clutch. The rear axle was fully re-furbished with new bearings and various ancillaries to include radiator, alternator and starter motor were re-conditioned. The E-Type was also subject of a body restoration and had a brand new bonnet, new boot floor, inner and outer wheel arches and new sills and was subject of a full re-paint in its original colour. When we purchased the car in 2007 with a recorded mileage of 76,000, it was a fabulous driver, felt like the ultimate ‘usable' E-Type and we treated it to new tyres, a new rear windscreen and rubber, serviced it and MOT tested the car prior to supplying the car on the 24th June 2007, two days after its 37th birthday.
Now 48 years old, the E-Type has come back to use even better and more proven. 11 years, 8000 miles and a couple of trips to Le Mans later the E-Type has driven to us faultlessly from Sheffield. PAK 839H has demonstrated exactly what we described back in 2007. It has proven totally reliable, it now has long distance touring experience over onto the Continent and can be driven with absolute confidence. Over the first five years of recent ownership the E-Type was nicely fettled, this included new HT leads, coil, electronic ignition, various re-wiring, new fan motors, heater motor, new clutch salve cylinder, new engine mountings, various new gaiters, all new coolant hoses, new manifold and stainless steel exhaust, rebuilt triple carburettors and new fuel pump. The front suspension was rebuilt with new rubbers and shocks, new D Type Replica alloy wheels were fitted and some years later the radiator was replaced, and all brake pipes were replaced throughout. Over the 8000 miles the car has never missed a beat and arrives with us in very strong mechanical order.
PAK 839H is quite simply superb on the road. Handling wise it feels top class as expected with the rebuilt front end, the engine runs perfectly with excellent oil pressure, it offers impressive performance and just feels and sounds ‘right'. The four speed all syncro gearbox is effortless to use with perfect smooth changes, the steering is precise, brakes are sharp and the car wants to be used and driven. The E-Type is certainly not a show car, its one to really drive and is capable as proven for long distance touring or simply regular use. The Regency Red paintwork still has a nice shine and the car is structurally strong and completely solid. Some of the panel gaps are not entirely perfect and the odd minor imperfections remind us the car is largely original and had a body restoration that was completed 24 years ago. The interior still retains the original Black leather seats that are in lovely order, carpets, headlining and dash are all in good condition and the overall presentation is tidy and honest with lots of charm. This is an E-Type to get out on the open road, it will certainly not disappoint and will offer lots of fun, reliable motoring and of course has the provenance of being a matching numbers UK car in its original colours.
