1965 Jaguar E-Type Series One 4.2 FHC

We are delighted to offer this rare opportunity to own a genuine UK supplied RHD matching numbers car still in its original factory supplied colours with original registration mark. Further to this provenance, this truly wonderful car has only changed hands once in the past 45 years, back in 1995. CHA 234C was manufactured on 26th March 1965 and was supplied new by P.J Evans to Winchurch Motors Ltd on 3rd April 1965. The car was delivered in Opalescent Silver Blue with Dark Blue leather and spent its early life in Edgbaston, Birmingham. The E-Type then spent from 1995 to 2015 in Cheltenham before being collected and transported to North Yorkshire where the car is now to be prepared and sold.

CHA 234C was subject of a major rebuild in 1997/1998 and has covered in the region of 15,000 miles since. The E-Type has been in regular use over each summer and has also been subject of ongoing maintenance and service work and comes with a large, comprehensive history file that includes thousands of pounds worth invoices, MOT certificates dating back to 1991, Heritage Certificate and photographic record of the substantial restoration.

During 1997/1998 the E-Type was stripped down to the bare shell and taken back to bare metal. All glass, interior and wiring was removed and the body rebuilt to an exceptionally high standard. On completion of the body restoration the E-Type was fully re-painted in its original colour. A new windscreen was fitted, chrome work was renewed and some of the interior was replaced as necessary. A new set of carpets and a headlining were fitted so the upholstery does still retain some lovely original features. The suspension components were re-furbished; the car was also treated to new hubs, wheel bearings and brake discs. Brake cylinders were overhauled, rubber brake hoses were replaced with braided versions and the main wiring loom was replaced. The engine was taken to VSE for a full rebuild and unleaded head conversion. A complete ‘Bell' exhaust system was fitted.

Since rebuild, further work and improvements have been carried out to include a new brake servo, master cylinder and Coopercraft front brake calipers being fitted. Other new parts include an alternator with heat shield and control unit, new radiator and header tank, new fuel pump, spin on oil filter conversion, high speed starter motor, front and rear Gaz adjustable shock absorbers and the Lucas distributor replaced by ‘123 Type' with electronically controlled advance/retard together with compatible coil and silicone plug leads.  The E-Type has also had a very smart set of triple laced 6J chrome wire wheels fitted but does also come with a standard 5J set fitted with Avon tyres.

CHA 234C has arrived with us in excellent mechanical order and with the above expenditure and improvement since this truly is a wonderful motor car. It is ideal for long distance touring, Continental touring and for admiring and taking out when the weather is good. The VSE rebuilt engine is excellent with great oil pressure, the all syncro gearbox is super smooth and the handling and braking are excellent.  Having inspected the car underneath we can see the floors, sills, space frame are all in excellent order and the car has been painted body colour underneath. The car has all the ingredients required to be one of the very best being such a correct, straight car. Seventeen years since completion of the body restoration, the paintwork does show some signs of age with some light imperfections as expected. The paintwork still has a lovely finish and the only reason this car would need to be painted would be to see it taken to the top level. The panel work, gaps and door fit are superb and the car is structurally excellent, it is only minor imperfections that show the age since restoration. Also, some of the chrome work has an aged look but is not damaged and is still bright. We are currently considering the next stage with the car, either to carry out paintwork and re-chroming work to take this car to the highest of standards, or keep it as a delightfully aged, usable and fantastic driving E-Type. The price will depend on the level work we carry out on the cosmetics so please do contact us should you wish to enquire further.
