This exceptional driving manual Jaguar MKII 3.8 has been with its last owner for 26 years in Dunfermline, Scotland. XMD 73A started life in South Africa and was imported to the UK in 1991, spending one year with a lady owner in Maidenhead prior to heading North to Scotland. With just two owners in 27 years, the MKII has been cherished and well-maintained covering relatively low annual mileage.
This MKII is an older restoration and a car that started life as a 3.4. The engine was sent to VSE, famous Jaguar engine builders in Wales back in the early 1990's just 4000 miles ago and was offered a fully rebuilt 3.8 exchange engine unit. The owner opted for the bigger, more desirable engine and 4000 miles since build it is quite simply outstanding offering top class performance, excellent oil pressure, it maintains correct temperature and sounds fabulous. Equally as impressive is the Moss gearbox with smooth overdrive and first gear is notably quiet which can be rare with this type of early MKII gearbox. The axle is quiet, brakes are very good and the steering lovely with the benefit of power assisted steering. This is a very strong driving car and it is likely to be a better driver than some of the MKII's at double the price.
XMD 73A is now an older restoration and whilst it retains lovely bright paintwork and chrome, there are now some minor bodywork blemishes showing in areas. This would make an ideal car for regular use and is most certainly an excellent opportunity to own a MKII 3.8 at an entry level that doesn't require major work. It can be used and enjoyed exactly as it is or in the future, it can be treated to bodywork and a re-paint if looking for a top class car. The bumpers are in smart, the wire wheels excellent and the engine bay and boot area present nicely and show the car was properly painted as a bare shell over 20 years ago. The interior is gorgeous with lovely bright seats, smart carpets, door cards and headlining as is only let down by some flaking lacquer to the dash top and door capping's. This is a great driving MKII that can be improved over time and offers excellent value.
