This beautiful Jaguar MKIX 3.8 Automatic Saloon was first registered on the 23rd October 1959. XXM 568 was first owned by a Limited Company in the W1 area of London. After four years in the West End of London, the Jaguar changed ownership and spent three years in Newbury before moving to Somerset until at least 1977. The history of the car suggests it was taken off the road in late 1970's and not registered throughout the 1980's and 1990's. Having spent over twenty years off the road, the 'flagship' Jaguar MKIX was subject of a full body off, nine year restoration.
The MKIX Jaguar is the last of the big separate chassis saloons and benefits from disc brakes and power assisted steering. This very usable, desirable Jaguar was restored by a retired garage proprietor. The engine rebuild included an unleaded head conversion, new big end bearings, pistons, timing chain and tensioners. The carburettors were fully rebuilt as were the fuel pumps. A brake overhaul consisted of all new copper brake pipes, new seals, new servo and master cylinder. The power steering pump was replaced and the dynamo checked and re-fitted. The suspension was overhauled and this included new shock absorbers and the replacement of all rubber bushes. The chassis was fully epoxy coated and the body taken down to bare metal and re-painted. The wiring loom was completely replaced and the interior renewed with brand new carpets, headlining and re-veneered woodwork.
Having covered very little mileage since the total nut and bolt restoration, this MKIX presents beautifully as one would expect. The Jaguar is fabulous on the road with a quiet engine holding very good oil pressure. With no knocks, rattles or smoking, the Jaguar accelerates tremendously well and is soon up to 70mph. This is a wonderful cruising car and with the 3.8 litre XK engine, the MKIX is very powerful for such a large and imposing car.
