We are delighted to offer this remarkably unique Jaguar SS 1.5 Saloon onto the market. The Jaguar was manufactured in November 1936, supplied new in Lavender Grey with Olive leather upholstery. The car was distributed from Parkers of Bolton, supplied new and registered to Lancashire SS agents Herbert Morris in April 1937. Having spent its early life in the North West, the Saloon made its way down to Hampshire, owned by a Mrs Gray or Romsey who had the Jaguar serviced and maintained by a local Company, Keebles Garage. When the time came to part with the car, Mrs Gray sold the 1.5 Saloon to the garage proprietor for use as his family car. When Mr Kibble’s daughter married, it was handed down the family line and the newlywed couple used the car for several years.
In 1967 the Jaguar was exported and sold to Bepi Koelliker in Northern Italy, a main agent for Jaguar, Morris, Land Rover, Mini, Austin and Triumph. Bepi Koelliker was a prominent SS collector and Jaguar dealer near Milan and this car formed part of his collection. The Koelliker Group still exists today, taken over by the son Luigi in 1975 and now importing and retailing vehicles from all around the globe. The car was restored by the main dealer technicians and kept on display at his showroom/museum. In 1969, the car was on display at the 1969 Turin Motor Show, invited by Jaguar and painted in the new Jaguar Silver to place on the stand with the newly launched XJ6 Series One model. The SS 1.5 Saloon was displayed next to three Silver XJ6 cars and the Jaguar has since featured in many publications giving the car the deserved provenance from its years in Italy.
In 2012 the collection was sold to dealership Zwakman of the Netherlands and subsequently sold to the last owner, a classic car enthusiast in Shropshire. Having spent around 40 years as part of a museum collection, the Jaguar was sold with a recorded 69,000 miles requiring re-commissioning work. Since returning to the UK, it has covered 4000 miles with a log recording its journeys and in the region of £20,000 has been spent ensuring its usable and reliable. Testament to this is driving over 4 hours faultlessly from Shropshire to North Yorkshire. Invoices are in the history file for work to include all new tyres and tubes, new exhaust system, removal and treatment of the fuel tank, new fuel pump, new carburettor, fuel filter hose, speedo cable, oil filter conversion, track rod ends, various electrical and re-wiring work, re-conditioning the clutch, new manifold gasket, regular servicing, new rubbers, trims and extensive bodywork and paintwork. The Jaguar SS 1.5 Saloon is truly unique in its 1960's Jaguar Silver. The car presents beautifully with a lovely, gleaming paint finish, excellent straight bodywork and stunning brightwork. The interior has been beautifully kept and offers a delightful patina with gorgeous original leather. The woodwork has been nicely detailed and re-finished, the headlining replaced and the interior has style, comfort and luxury. On the road the Jaguar is impressive, and this was proven on its long tour across country from Shropshire. The engine is strong and performs incredibly well, the oil pressure is very good and the car runs at correct temperature. Brakes, steering and general handling is very good, the gearbox is strong with nice changes up the gearbox and only slight wear detected in the syncromesh coming down the gears. This Jaguar SS is a beautiful car, it looks absolutely stunning in its Silver paint finish, it has true provenance, wonderful upholstery, is an exceptional car on the road and is proven to be capable of reliable long distance touring. This is a very special car and its Turin Motor Show history adds lovely provenance to what is a very special car.
