Many consider the XK150 Roadster as the ultimate XK with its truly stunning, elegant looks. Jaguar launched the Roadster in 1958 to meet demand from the U.S and today it is the Roadster version that is arguably the most sought after of the whole XK range. This wonderful top class example was supplied new in the U.S by Jaguar Cars New York, despatched on the 1st July 1958. The majority were supplied new in the U.S and this particular car was carefully sourced in Florida by the last owner over seventeen years ago and brought over to the UK for a full body off restoration and conversion to right hand drive. The car was chosen prior to rebuild for several reasons to include being a matching chassis and engine number car, and for the superb original structural condition of the car.
We know from the history file that this XK was in regular use in Texas throughout the 1980's and by 1997 was found for sale in the State of Florida. The XK was purchased in need of restoration and was shipped to England where a no expense spared restoration was carried out. Over a six year period the XK was fully stripped down to the bare chassis and subject of a top class rebuild to show condition. The bare chassis was treated and re-painted, the body restored and all chrome work renewed. In the region of £8000 was spent on a fully re-trimmed interior and hood by the world class Suffolk and Turley and the car mechanically rebuilt with all new suspension, brakes, steering and fuel systems. The original 3.4 unit was rebuilt and a five speed gearbox fitted to enhance the drive of the car,
Since restoration almost 3000 miles have been completed in the car and we can confirm it drives and performs faultlessly. The engine is a strong 3.4 unit holding exceptional oil pressure. The engine runs perfectly and sounds fantastic with a lovely note. The car feels quick, holds the road perfectly, it brakes efficiently and the five speed gearbox is a delight to use. We have covered a considerable mileage since the car arrived and it really is first class, riding on a set of brand new Pirelli Cinturato tyres and correct size XK chrome wire wheels. Everything about this car is top class, including the choice of tyres and upholstery.
Inspecting the underside of the vehicle is like viewing a car just a few months old. The chassis is outstanding, clean, painted and as one would expect of a show standard car. In late 2014 the XK was treated to a professional rolling shell re-paint. The XK paintwork after over ten years had marks and light scratches in the paintwork so to ensure the paint finished matched the rest of the car, a no expense spared re-paint taking the best part of 150 hours from start to finish including strip down and build up was carried out. The XK bodyshell is truly outstanding with no rust and perfectly straight panels that contribute making this XK150 Roadster the very best we have had. This is an ideal car for the collector, enthusiast or classic car owner who wants a superbly rebuilt example to use for long or short distance touring. This would be a wonderful car to tour Europe and is certainly something very special. With several ‘S' spec Roadster's now commanding well over £200,000, this is an excellent opportunity to purchase a magnificent example Roadster that offers good value. We previously sold the car in early 2015 to an overseas based collector who drove the car faultlessly to his Essex storage facility where it has been kept dry stored under a car cover. Due to two Rolls Royce Silver Ghost's arriving from the U.S, further storage space is now required and the XK150 has had to be sold.
