This is a truly wonderful find and offers an unrepeatable opportunity. This original Land Rover 109 LWB has covered a genuine 89000 miles and comes with a full history since 1969. Our Land Rover has huge provenance and comes with a fabulous file detailing the vehicles usage, maintenance and interesting stories. It was supplied new in 1968 but soon changed hands and was purchased by five medical students in London and Belfast. OWD 934F was taken to North Africa in 1968 on a University first year summer vacation. Correspondence in the file confirms the Land Rover was a brilliant, reliable vehicle through North Africa and one of the students recalls servicing it twice on the trip, the second being carried out on the beach near Rabat in Morocco. The last meal with the Landy is also recorded, in a lay by near Paris late at night as they had decided to drive through the night to make the early morning ferry back to the UK. Photos and stories from the adventure are present in the history file.A bill of sale dated 1969 is with the car from The Rover Company Ltd, Fulham SW6. The Landy was sold to Mr Thompson who kept the vehicle until 2011. The students who previously owned the Land Rover did manage to spot OWD 934F in the Wimbledon area during the 1970's and 1980's as it was in regular use. The Land Rover spent forty years with one owner who clearly cherished the Land Rover and kept hold of everything relating to the vehicle. MOT's are present back to 1971 when three years old, the original handbook and technical details booklet (we've never seen one of these before) is still present and a huge file of service history from 1969 adds to old logbooks and price lists. Some of the invoices are main dealer and demonstrate how this hugely rare car has been kept so original. In 2011 the Land Rover was sold to a friend of the long term owner and he used the Series IIA for shows and events across Cornwall and Devon. During his three year ownership he replaced the front door tops and front seats as they were still original from new and we're presenting badly. In 2014 the Landy had to be sold and was in the hands of one of the UK's best known specialists. They promised to keep it original and not paint the vehicle, retaining imperfections rather than spoiling originality and the unique nature of this wonderful machine. In 2014 the Safari was sold to a British collector based in both Switzerland and Holland. During his ownership around 5000 euros has been spent on improvements such as new tyres, new full exhaust system, new leaf springs, some electrical work and the braking system and clutch system checked and improved as necessary. OWD 394F has now been part exchanged with us against a LHD Porsche 356C
The Land Rover presents as a true time warp. Externally the paintwork survives in original condition and looks fabulous. There are certainly blemishes but the externals can only be admired considering originality and will surely suit a collectors or enthusiast looking for an original, honest and correct classic. The original galvanised cappings have not been tampered with and the correct door hinges are present, as is everything associated with the detail on the exterior including the period working footsteps. The chassis is in excellent order and has been regularly sealed and waxoyled over the years. Under the bonnet the original straight six petrol engine is clean, tidy and totally standard. The excellent service history and low mileage have allowed the engine to remain smooth, strong and powerful. The Land Rover runs and drives beautifully and sounds lovely. Out on the road it's clear it's been a superbly maintained example. It drives smoothly and directly and it's how you would expect it to drive when just a few years old in the late 1960's and early 1970's. The steering is precise, brakes are sharp, the overdrive works and the ride quality is impressive. The interior of the Land Rover is delightful with a full Elephant hide trim. This rare example has a deluxe interior and with the exception of the front seats which have been replaced, it is totally original. The trim has largely survived, there are a few repairs on the rear seats but we can forgive that after almost fifty years. The headlining is particularly nice, interior lights work and the dashboard and gauges are all impressive and work. To conclude this is a rare find, tax exempt station wagons are rare but to find one with low warranted mileage, 1 owner for 31 years, history from 1969 and in such original strong order could well be impossible to repeat. Please note the final four photos were taken in the late 1960's, two in Africa and two on the St Gotthard Pass in Switzerland.
