This superb driving, usable Land Rover Series III Diesel has come into us in part exchange from a regular customer just 15 miles away. The Landy drove over to us performing incredibly well and in recent months was in our workshop for a new starter motor, re-conditioned speedo and new fuel tank sender unit. On 15 mile test drive from Wetwang to Malton the Land Rover demonstrated a very willing and lusty engine which has been recently rebuilt. Whilst it is possible on steep descents for the gearbox to exhibit the common ‘jumping out of third’ issue, the bearings are quiet and the syncro’s good. Brakes, steering and suspension all function well and the axle is relatively quiet.
In 2015 the engine was treated to a re-bore, new pistons, main bearings and cylinder head rebuild. The gearbox was treated to all new bearings, gaskets, syncro hubs and new first and second gear. Further work included new alternator, brake drums, hand brake shoes, shock absorbers, fuel pump, new front and rear sills, replacement exhaust manifold and various wiring replaced. The Land Rover was also treated to a full re-paint, some new metal work, steel components were stripped and galvanised and new front bumper and all new lights fitted. Since this restoration work and engine rebuild, the Land Rover has only covered 2000 miles and is a very usable example.
WGV 588K has a good, bright paint finish and the body work is structurally excellent and in sound order. The Landy presents very well and its clear its had lots of money spent on it over the past few years. The interior is very smart indeed with good quality seats, carpets and dashboard. This is far from a show piece but offers excellent value and is ideal for regular use.
