1972 MG BGT

This superb driving MGB was first registered on the 1st April 1972 and has been driven over to us from York. LEM 833K is absolutely outstanding to drive and is something quite s special on the road. The engine is superb, the uprated gearbox brilliant to use and the car handles and feels truly brilliant on the road. It just wants to be driven and is perfectly set up. In 2014 the engine was treated to an engine rebuild to include a rebore, new pistons, new main and big end bearings, re-ground crankshaft, new oil pump, pushrods, camshaft, followers, timing chain kit, rocker shaft assembly, re-conditioned cylinder head and all new gaskets. Even more recently in 2015 the MG was treated to a new five speed gearbox, a re-conditioned Ford Type 9 carried out by Hi-Gear Engineering. Invoices for thousands of pounds worth of work include new anti roll bar bushes, new trunnion kit, new stub axles, engine mounts, brake hoses, new clutch , clutch hose and release bearing, new fuel tank and new propshaft are also present.

Whilst the MG has older paintwork, the body work is absolutely top class having had a thorough structural restoration. In 2014 the body was stripped and various new panels to include sill ends, inner sill floor section, castle rails and outrigger panels and on completion the underside was treated with waxoyl. Prior to 2014 improvements included new leaf springs, shackle bushes, telescopic Gaz shocks, new wishbone bushes, thermostat and housing, new water pump, new exhaust system, new manifolds, new steering rack, wheel cylinders and new distributor and various ignition items. Further back in the 1990's the external shell was treated to new half rear wings, new door skins and door bottoms, a new cross member was also fitted along with some new chromework. At this point it was treated to a full  re-paint. There is also a huge comprehensive file of invoices dating right through the 1980's for maintenance, repairs and various aspects of restoration work. The MG has clearly been a car that has had no expense spared for the past thirty five years and this is evident in the way it drives and performs. It really is truly outstanding on the road and is top class to drive, arriving with us in mechanically excellent order.

The MG retains a nice older paint finish, a re-paint would see the car gleaming but for a usable classic ready for regular or daily use it's certainly smart enough. The engine bay is particularly smart and the interior presents very well having been re-trimmed in Beige leather at some point. The wheels are excellent and the car appears very smart, honest and well presented offering good value. This is one of those cars just to jump into and drive, enjoy and put plenty of miles on with confidence. With comprehensive history, thousands of pounds worth of expenditure, lots of old MOT's back to 1981 and evidence of reliable touring, this MG has everything. Since the engine rebuild the MG has covered less than 2000 miles and offers an excellent opportunity.
