This presentable MKII MG Midget was driven to us from South Yorkshire performing superbly with very good oil pressure and a steady temperature. The MG was happy on the motorway and performed faultlessly with excellent steering, handling and braking.
Since 2008 the MG has had in the region of £2000 spent on maintenance which includes a re-conditioned steering rack, new clutch kit, new wheel cylinders, brake shoes and brake pads, new starter motor, new diff oil seal and gaskets, new handbrake cable, swivel pin kit and track rod ends and a new radiator and hoses.
Between 2000 and 2001 the MG was subject of a restoration that included new front wings, new doors, new bonnet, half rear wing sections, rear wheel arches and inner wings, new front valance and A posts. The MG was stripped down to bare metal and re-painted. The interior was re-trimmed to include new carpets, seat covers, new panels, new dashboard and instruments. The hood and frame were also replaced. Bright work including bumpers, grill and door handles were replaced and other work included a new stainless steel exhaust system, new fuel tank, new fuel lines, new front suspension including wishbones, shock absorbers, king pins and bushes. Five new tyres were fitted and the underbody treated with waxoyl. Invoices for parts total in excess of £4,000 and since the restoration in 2004, the MG was fitted with a re-conditioned engine and various other mechanical improvements at the cost of over £1,500.
The MG is a very straight, solid car and is ideal for regular use. Since the restoration the MG has covered around 32000 miles and since the re-conditioned engine 20,000 miles. The bodywork is still very good with no corrosion problems but the paint finish is slightly dull after many years since the bare metal re-paint. Overall this is a very good example that is fabulous drive and offers excellent value.
