We are delighted to offer this beautifully restored, incredibly rare MG YT onto the market. Only 877 Y Type Tourers were ever built, and this is the first one we have had in over fifteen years. This original RHD example that spent much of its life in Florida and came back to the UK in 2014 requiring extensive restoration. Our YT had been in the ownership of a lady in Naples, Florida and we know the MG had a recorded mileage of 30,350 in 1987 and just a further 2500 miles were covered before the MG was to be laid up in a Florida garage for over 20 years. Prior to its years off the road, we know the MG was known to the MG Club in the USA, and the history file contains a Classic MG Club Ltd plaque from Lake Placid, Florida – ‘Gathering of the Faithful’ in March 1976.
The MG arrived from Florida running, but requiring major restoration. A comprehensive file of paperwork and photographs accompany the car detailing the whole process. The body was stripped down, and the car taken to a rolling shell. The body was taken back to bare metal and comprehensively restored. The photographs show the chassis was extremely strong, and it was cleaned and re-painted and new marine plywood floorboards fitted. The MG was then fully re-painted in Black and built up with renewed chrome work, new rubbers etc. The interior was beautifully re-trimmed and the MG treated to brand new weather equipment.
Whilst the body was stripped down, the MG was mechanically rebuilt as required. The braking system, suspension, steering was all rebuilt, as was the fuel system (including removal of the tank and a new fuel pump), cooling system including new water pump and all electrics were re-wired. The rear axle was stripped, the running engine was found to be in strong condition and was treated to new gaskets and various new seals. The clutch was replaced, the gearbox checked, and new mountings fitted. The completed car was then beautifully detailed and presented for MOT. Since then the MG has covered just 500 miles and comes to us in stunning condition with delightful paint and chrome, a first class interior, excellent weather equipment and drives superbly with a strong, fit engine holding excellent oil pressure with lovely useable gearbox. These YT's do not come up very often, and the cost to rebuild the car today would still outweigh the asking price. We have sold many Y Type Saloons over the years and are delighted to have managed to acquire this lovely, smartly presented original RHD Tourer.
