1962 MGA 1600 MKII Coupe

This stunning, original UK supplied MKII MGA Coupe has had very few owners having spent 40 years with just one keeper, an engineer in Nottinghamshire. The MGA was bought in the early 1970's and used on a regular basis and we have MOT certificates from 1973 to show annual mileage and usage. The MGA was subject of a ten year rebuild and by the 1990's the A was being entered for shows and has been awarded many prizes over the past twenty years. Since rebuild the car has covered over 12000 miles and no expense has been spared during and since restoration.

The rebuild began with the bodywork and the only significant repairs on this UK car were the replacement of inner and outer sills, new floorboards and supports, new inner wings and a new boot floor. The body was prepared and treated to a bare metal re-paint in Old English White and chrome work was replaced or renewed. A complete new interior to include new headlining, leather seats, leather door panels and carpets were fitted along with a period radio fitted. The engine was overhauled and treated to new piston rings, main and big end bearings. The cylinder head was converted to run on unleaded fuel and the clutch replaced. A new petrol tank and stainless steel exhaust system were fitted and a full overhaul of braking system carried out to include fitting copper brake pipes and using silicone fluid. All tyres including spare where replaced and modifications to include a Kenlowe fan, screw on modified oil filter, electronic fuel pump and under wing splash guards to protect the headlight, sidelight and flasher units were supplied and fitted.

Since restoration the MGA has been superbly maintained and has come to us in excellent mechanical order. The body is still excellent but the paint finish had faded due to the age of the paint. Prior to being advertised the car has been subject of a full re-paint that included removal and re-fitting of windscreens and new rubbers were fitted.  500 AFR now has a top class paint finish with a stunning gleam and is ready to be re-entered into shows. The interior is still stunning with lovely high quality red leather seats and carpets, headlining and dashboard are all very smart. The underbody is in excellent order and has been regularly waxoyled.  The boot area has been nicely carpeted and the engine bay is clean and will polish and detail well.

On the road 500 AFR is excellent with tight handling and steering, superb performance from the 1622cc engine and a superb smooth gearbox with excellent syncro's. The MGA has a fabulous exhaust note and is effortless to drive. The engine holds excellent oil pressure, the car holds correct temperature and is strong, reliable and ready to use and enjoy.
