This is one of those special cars that do not often come onto the market. To rebuild an MGA to this standard, with the impressive range of upgrades should cost well in excess of £50,000. This is an excellent opportunity to purchase what has to be one of the most exciting long distance touring MGA Roadsters we have seen in many, many years at a price substantially less than restoring one to this standard. This home market RHD MGA is finished in the desirable combination of Old English White with Red leather upholstery, riding on chrome wire wheels and with mohair hood, sidescreens and tonneau cover.
We first sold 1354 WU in 2001 to a Yorkshire Dales based couple who have owned the car for fifteen years. Prior to 2001 the MGA was subject of a full nut and bolt rebuild between 1996 to 1998. The body was totally stripped down and the car built up with new chrome, a brand new interior and rebuilt mechanical components. Many of the parts came from MGA specialist Bob West and from 1998 to 2001 the MGA covered around 1250 miles. We sold the car in 2001 as one of the finest MGA's we had seen. From 2001 to 2008 the A covered a further 2500 miles, including some overseas touring prior to being taken off the road. Between 2008 and 2014 the long term owners spent a fortune making this the ultimate long distance touring car. The MG was treated to a brand new re-conditioned 2.0 tuned and balanced Ivor Searle engine, new flywheel and clutch, Ford five speed gearbox, brand new rear axle, new propshaft, alternator conversion, uprated radiator and fan, electronic ignition, four branch stainless manifold, stainless steel exhaust system, new carburettors, new fuel pump and new ventilated front brake discs with ‘Green' pads. Over this period the MGA was also treated to a total full re-paint, finished to an exceptional standard and a brand new set of chrome wire wheels. Sadly, since the recent upgrades, this unbelievable driving, quick MGA has only covered 1000 miles, meaning the car has only covered around 5000 miles since the original late 1990's rebuild.
The MGA came back to us in fifteen years on in 2016 and had not been driven for a couple of years. Prior to selling the car to one of our long term customers we prepared the car replacing rear axle oil seals, rear brake shoes, rear brake cylinders, new bottom rear arm poly bushes, front poly bushes, new handbrake gaiter, new rear leaf springs, new tyres and a new mohair hood. On behalf of the new owner we also fitted a brake servo. As the car had last been painted some time since, our Malton Coachworks bodyshop treated to the MGA to a full re-paint in order to finish the car to an exceptional standard with a first class, glass finish. The MGA sold very quickly and has been in Cheshire since. One year and 150 miles later, the car has come back to us due to change in circumstances.
As a result of the impressive specification, this car is just sensational to drive. It's quick, responsive, smooth, tight, and feels so much better than a standard MGA. The purist may not appreciate the upgrades but if you are looking for a top class driving car, capable of touring the Continent, capable of being driven on a regular basis, this has to be the car. The car is exciting on the road, feels so slick and pulls through the five speed gearbox with real power. The presentation of the car matches up with the impressive specification and strong mechanical order. The body is stunning with excellent panel gaps, the car has sharp wheel arches, ultra clean inner arches and a stunning underside. The engine bay is stunning at show level and the underneath as good as the top. The late 1990's re-trimmed upholstery has delightfully aged, the Red leather is very high quality and carpets, door cards, weather equipment and dashboard are all as new. This is a stunning car in every respect and really deserves to be driven. Rebuilding MGA's to this standard is expensive, and this car should offer superb value. This should not be mistaken with the average, well restored MGA, this is something very, very special and will not disappoint.
