This genuine UK supplied overdrive MGB Roadster was first registered on the 5th March 1969 and was subject of a major rebuild in 1990. The MGB was treated to a brand-new Heritage shell, new wings and door skins, and was completely rebuild by a Midlands classic car specialist. Their paperwork states that the panel fit on the completed car was better than the MG Motor Company has ever achieved on their production models. The MG was also mechanically overhauled, the engine and gearbox checked and the brakes and suspension fully overhauled. XPD 388G first came to us in 2011 and has been with one owner since. Mileage since full restoration in 1990 is in the region of 15,000.
Prior to marketing the MG, a programme of work costing £10,000 has been carried. After 27 years since the rebuild, it was time to strip the car down again and carry out a full re-paint on the rust-free Heritage shell. The paint finish had begun to show signs of wear and in order to maintain the high restoration standards, our Malton Coachworks facility stripped the MG down to a rolling shell. The engine and all ancillaries were removed and the shell was treated to a full outer re-spray including engine bay and boot. The car was fully built back up, the engine detailed and re-fitted with a new clutch and a brand-new hood fitted. A new set of tyres were fitted to the good quality chrome wire wheels and the MG serviced.
XPD 388G presents superbly with a first-class paint finish, an exceptional straight rust free body with painted underside, new hood, beautifully prepared engine bay and a delightfully aged interior with Black with Red piped leather seats, Black carpets, Moto-Lita steering wheel and walnut dash. In the boot is a spare wire wheel, tonneau cover and hood cover. The MGB drives superbly with an excellent strong engine, lovely four speed gearbox with overdrive and the car handles perfectly with precise steering, lovely road holding and sharp efficient brakes. A restoration to this standard including Heritage Shell could today cost anywhere in the region of £30,000-£40,000 plus the cost of buying the car. This example offers exceptionally good value considering not only condition, but the fact that its proven reliable over the 27 years since major rebuild and is a car now superbly well-run in. It presents as a recent rebuild, yet has stood the test of time and is a car that can be driven and enjoyed with absolute confidence.
The MG comes with a well documented history to include restoration photographs and invoices, recent invoices with photo record, handbooks and MOT's dating back to 1992.
