XBB 840H is an original UK supplied MGB Roadster first registered on the 6th March 1970. The MGB is equipped with overdrive, chrome wire wheels, mohair hood, twin electric cooling fans, stainless steel exhaust system and unleaded cylinder head and has been in regular use since a major restoration in 1992/1993.
Photographs in the history file show the MGB in the early 1990's stripped down to the bare shell undergoing a comprehensive restoration. With engine, gearbox, axles, all brightwork, glass, ancillaries and interior removed, the shell was professionally rebuilt and fully re-painted. The MG was built up with new chrome work, the engine bay was re-fitted to a show standard, a new upholstery fitted and mechanically the car was completely rebuilt, and a brand new re-conditioned engine fitted.
Having purchased the MG in 1992, the owner had commissioned the restoration and then enjoyed covering 21,000 miles up to selling the car in 2000. Since 2000, with just two owners, the car has covered a further 13,000 miles. XBB 840H has proven an exceptional drivers' car for regular use and long distance touring, a comprehensive file of invoices show good quality maintenance and upkeep. The only major work since restoration was in 2016 when the engine was treated to new pistons, bearings, water pump, hoses and clutch kit.
On the road we are pleased to report this MGB is outstanding. The rebuilt engine is strong, performs superbly and holds excellent oil pressure. The four speed gearbox is smooth, the overdrive functions correctly and the rear axle is quiet. The B handles, holds the road and brakes well and is a true delight keeping up with modern traffic effortlessly. The fact this car has covered 34,000 miles since restoration clearly demonstrates the enjoyment previous owners have had with the car. XBB 840H presents very well with lovely, clean bright Red paintwork, excellent chrome work, a smart, tidy interior and exceptional detailed engine bay. The restored bodyshell is perfectly straight with lovely panels, the inner arches are lovely and clean, the underside structurally excellent. This is a lovely, usable MGB that is ideal for regular use, long distance touring and is ideal for attending shows and classic car events.
