This stunning MGB Roadster was first registered on the 2nd March 1971 and supplied new to it's first owner in Whitby, North Yorkshire. The MG spent three years in Whitby and in 1974 was sold to an author, Frederick George Thomas Bridgham who is known for examining the rift between British and German intellectual and cultural traditions prior to 1914. The MG was based in Leeds for several years before selling to a lady in Sunderland in 1978 who didn't keep the car long. The MG spent from 1979 to 1989 with one owner in Harrogate and between 1989 and 1990 substantial restoration work was carried out on the car.
WPY 229J was treated to a brand new Heritage Shell and an uprated highly tuned 1950cc engine. The underside of the shell was treated with clear waxoyl so a stunning colour coded underside can be inspected and seen to be in excellent order. We believe the MG has only covered 9500 miles since the restoration and we have MOT's since 2006 showing the car has covered around 4500 miles in the past nine years. The condition today is as expected with under 10,000 and the car is truly stunning in every respect.
The car is outstanding to drive with a fabulous exhaust note from the stainless steel exhaust box and mild steel branch manifold. The engine holds superb oil pressure and has excellent compressions and is quick, responsive and is set up superbly. The four speed gearbox is top class and the car handles superbly with the advantage of a rear anti roll bar kit. The MG has other upgrades that have been added over the years to include a servo, electronic ignition and kenlowe fan. The MG was last sold in 2009 and over the past six years the car has been superbly maintained and a wide range of detail and mechanical improvement work has been carried out. The MG has had a new red hood, bonnet and boot gas struts fitted and various replacement items such as a starter motor. Interestingly not one of the previous MOT's over nine years has had an advisory attached, showing us how well this car has been maintained and kept up too.
WPY 229J presents superbly with stunning paintwork, an excellent bodyshell, gleaming chrome and a first class set of chrome wire wheels with white wall tyres. The interior has excellent Black leather seats with Red piping, walnut dash and door capping's, a smart carpet set and a full tonneau cover. The engine bay is show standard and the boot area beautifully presented. The underside is impressive and in excellent order due to covering such low mileage since restoration and being re-shelled. This highly desirable car has the benefit of being rebuilt with a new shell and has been beautifully detailed under the bonnet and really does present beautifully. Having road tested the car on arrival we can confirm driving the car meets the high expectations set from the condition of the cosmetics. This is truly something very special on the road and the enhanced engine means this is a particularly quick MG. On the road this is very hard to fault and is an absolute delight in every respect. A perfect summer car and it really does look the part with some lovely finishing touches.
