NUG 867L was built between on the 4th/5th December 1972 and despatched on the 21st December in Glacier White with Blue trim and Black soft top. The car was supplied new by Appleyard Limited, Leeds and was equipped with Rostyle wheels, overdrive and brake servo. This home market original RHD car still retains its original colours and it's appearance has only slightly changed from factory with the addition of MG alloy wheels, oodrim steering wheel and walnut dashboard and centre console capping. We know this car well having sold the car back in 2012 and since then it has covered 4000 faultless miles. The MG was driven back over to us after three years from Stockton on Tees and is a lovely, usable example that is ideal for regular use.
In many respects this is a largely original vehicle and over the years it has been maintained to a very high standard. It has been subject of some major restoration work and we have photographs showing various bodywork repairs being carried in 1995. The car was stripped down, various new metal work was carried out and the MG was then re-painted as per original. We have a comprehensive invoice file for all work and maintenance since the 1990's and we have confirmation and information detailing the restoration work in 1995. This works schedule included a brand new re-conditioned engine being fitted, a new clutch assembly, new engine and gearbox mountings, new alternator, starter motor, clutch master and slave cylinder, all new electrical wiring installed, new stainless steel exhaust system, re-conditioned carburettors, rebuilt gearbox, new brake cylinders, brake discs and pads, new shock absorbers, renewed radiator, new ignition coil and plug leads and the engine oil cooler was removed. The chassis was completely treated with rust preventative before spraying with Shultz protection. The internal sections of the chassis and body panels were sprayed with Finnigans waxoyl treatment and the interior treated to new leather seats and a new carpet set. Since this work the MG has covered almost 35,000 miles and has proven to be a reliable, usable example capable of long distance touring.
On the road NUG 867L is very impressive with a superb strong engine holding excellent oil pressure. The gearbox has excellent syncro's and therefore changes up and down smoothly. The overdrive works correctly and the car handles and brake efficiently. The car has been well maintained and is in strong mechanical condition. The MGB presents well with a straight bodyshell with a very good standard of paintwork. The underside is structurally excellent and panel gaps are very good. The chrome work is bright, the hood is in very good order and the interior presents well with lovely leather seats, good quality carpets and door cards. The new walnut dash is excellent, as is the woodrim steering wheel and the boot is nicely carpeted and the engine bay very impressive with a good level of detail. The MG is ideal for regular use, a great starter classic that can keep up with modern traffic and it does present very nicely so ideal for local shows, rallies and events.
