Malton Coachworks complete full nut and bolt rebuild for New York based client

Published: 1-Jun-15

Our sister Company Malton Coachworks have completed a full nut and bolt rebuild on an MGA Roadster for a New York based client.

Having completed several top quality full rebuilds for existing Classic & Sportscar Centre clients, we were contacted by the overseas client and negotiations were efficiently underway to both purchase, and then rebuild a car to his requirements.

We sourced an ex-California car in need of total restoration but also retained a high quality underbody benefitting from life in a warm climate. The body was removed from the chassis, both were blasted and then fully prepared and rebuilt. The bare shell was painted in the clients choice of Black. The MG was treated to all new mechanicals so the engine, gearbox and rear axle were rebuilt, the brakes, suspension, fuel, coolant and steering systems were replaced/renewed and the wiring loom and all electrics replaced. The car was converted to right hand drive as it will be only used in the UK and the car re-fitted with brand new lights, chrome, wheels, tyres, weather equipment and trims. The upholstery was professionally re-trimmed and some final touches to include a Motolita steering wheel and boot rack were fitted at the owners request.

On completion the MGA was MOT tested and an initial 50 miles of road testing was carried out on the North Yorkshire Moors. On Monday 25th May the MGA was delivered to a Central London hotel for the owner to see and drive the MGA for the very first time. The car successfully covered in the region of 300 miles over three days, touring to Kent and then Norfolk in lovely warm weather. The MGA was then driven back to Central London, performing faultlessly in the busy, City traffic. The MG has now returned to Malton Coachworks and will be treated to an oil change now the running in process is underway. The MGA will be dry stored in Malton and will be delivered to London for the owners future UK visits.

Photographs show the MG at certain stages of rebuild and on completion with the owner covering running in miles.
