ORR 717 was purchased new on the 5th December 1967 and was owned by one family until we sold the car to its most recent, second owner in 2014. The original 1967 bill of sale from B & K Thomas Ltd of Nottingham confirms the Mercedes was sold to B.A Roberts Esq in Conisborough, South Yorkshire and ordered with automatic transmission, power steering, Ivory paintwork and M.B Tex Brown 2400 upholstery. The Mercedes came to us in need of re-commissioning in 2014 with a warranted, genuine 81,800 miles from new. The car has now covered 83000 miles and having just two owners from new, superb history and a high level of originality, makes this a very special, rare motor car with exceptional provenance.
This largely original car covered over 81000 miles in its first ten years and then spent over 30 years dry stored and off the road. In 2013 the Mercedes was recovered from Conisborough and found in totally original condition. The body on the Mercedes was found to be completely original and untouched with superb straight panels but faded paintwork. Chrome work whilst slightly dull was in good condition and all glass very good. ORR 717 was put through a programme of recommissioning and was first of all treated to fresh oil and filter, new spark plugs and a new battery. Fuel lines were cleaned out and the tank removed and sent for specialist cleaning. The sender unit was replaced with a genuine Mercedes Benz part from Classic Mercedes, Germany and the vehicle was started for this first time in many, many years. The brakes were then re-commissioned and the shock absorbers replaced. The original body required very little work with some rust cut out and replaced with new metal. The exterior was then repainted in its original colour of Ivory. In total, over £5500 was spent putting this remarkably original low mileage car back on the road and in 2014 was sold to its most recent owner who has covered in the region of 1000 miles in the car. The Mercedes Benz today presents beautifully with a high level of originality present. The interior is totally untouched with superb original M.B Tex seats, superb dashboard, door cards, headlining and remarkably, original intact carpets. The engine bay and boot area are original, well presented and the underside is structurally outstanding and so original.
Over the past 18 months the Mercedes has had no use so prior to being offered onto the market has had a further £2,500 spent on servicing, rebuilt brake calipers, rear discs and pads, fuel pump, rear exhaust silencer, new brake pipes and rebuilt alternator. On the road this 250S performs exceptionally well with a strong, powerful engine that delivers smooth power and acceleration. The oil pressure is perfect and the Mercedes handles superbly with super light steering, sharp brakes that pull up straight and a firm suspension. The automatic gearbox changes up and down smoothly and we can confirm the car drives like a top class, low mileage original car should. It is a true delight on the road and is comfortable, spacious and a very relaxed ride. ORR 717 comes with its original bill of sale, handbook, original logbooks and various paperwork and photographs. This car has true provenance with a genuine 83,000 miles, history back to new, recent invoices for over £8,000 and it still presents as a time warp. This is a rare model and is somewhat unrepeatable and should prove an excellent long term purchase.
